Root [Virgin Mobile] Zact SG Victory to VM Custom?

Hello,
I would like to ask a few questions.
What are the basic differences between the Sprint Victory and the VM Victory? I have a Zact Victory which is pretty much just a Sprint Victory with Zact application installed. If you have the MSL you can actually go in a just turn off the Zact/Its On functionality. I have already had the Zact Victory and a Zact SG SIII activated on RingPlus with no issues and Ting cleared the ESN for a SIII I had.
My apprehension is that Zact is now ceasing operations and they are transitioning Zact users to "VM Custom". VM is sending out and OTA update to swap the Zact functionality over to the VM Custom functionality. I would really like to try this service since the first month is free. But..... It always seems to be mentioned that most the workings of the Sprint version are not interchangeable with the VM version, radio different? So, I am concerned that this OTA download may marry my device with VM in some fashion, change the ability for it to function with Sprint if I decide to move it back to a Sprint MVNO?
One reason I want to keep the ability to move this device back to Sprint is that the Zact Victories don't seem to have the in call volume issue like Sprint versions.

So how to CYA? Should I root the phone? Is there a way to make a full system back up that I could reinstall in case VM wants to marry my device to their service? Or back up certain parameters?
Your thoughts would be appreciated.

well I don't know anything about Zact but the main difference between the VM and Sprint phones appears to mostly boil down to the partitions being slightly different, so nothing too special and VM is basically a Sprint owned MVNO, so if you want to later switch to a Sprint MVNO it should... work as is, though if its switching over to VM then LTE may not work if you switch, (I'm just assuming, because apparently a few VM roms work on the sprint phone and work fine but don't have LTE) if it doesn't however, if its basically a Sprint victory then flash the stock Sprint rom onto it and that might fix it, can be found here if you need it. Are there differences in the radios between VM and Sprint devices? There isn't LG Viper contingent on the VM side so I thought I would bring it up here. Some are reporting that their Zact LG Vipers will not connect to 4G LTE since they transitioned to VM Custom. VM Custom is telling them their Vipers do not have the correct frequency to access 4G LTE on VM, does not make sense to me?
Thoughts?

well VM is basically a sprint owned MVNO so it "should" support most if not all the same bands, however it's possible that the phone itself or VM doesn't support the required band, say for example.. your phone supports 1700 lte and VM runs off the 1900 lte band or vise versa.

I don't actually know, I just don't want go and to look it up.. just one of the reasons as to why it might not work, though that sounds like what is happening, so I guess if you really want 4G I would suggest trying out Ting or some other MVNO because I think that they don't have the proper bands for your phone.
(at least from how you described it)
