Visual Voicemail?

ok, so set everything up, but... will i have to "call" to get my voice mail every time? was hoping it would just list the missed msgs, and i could open whichever one I wanted at the time. This may be a deal breaker - really don't want to have to "dial" to get vm everytime- help!

.... also - would like to have visual vm & text if avail. why could my old hero (3yrs old?) do all of this, but the flashy new NS4G cannot - seems odd...

I still don't get why anyone would spend money on something that Google voice does free. Just because it requires one extra step to set up? That's not worth 3 bucks to me. But each his own

ok - two questions for two people:

NOMster-how do i get GVlite? "Disabled" sprint/google now what? why is it that I have to "refresh" to get ANY info (vm/text/etc) - this is my biggest prob.

Namreg - can i get visual vm and transcript from vm while still using 3rd party (handcent)? that is NO cost - not sure that i want to pay for something that to me seems like it should be free.

I would like (for free)

-voice mail (visual) with text transcriptions if possible - with no lag
-text with handcent (or other 3rd party app) ONLY

this all seems so simple, yet I am lost LOL!

Both of you have been fantastic - this is why I joined this forum. You both have been patient and extremely helpful, and I would still be using my NEXTEL flip phone if not for each of your kindness!!

OK here is the thing although I already answered your questions. I use handcent with better youmail and both work great.
You started this thread by wanting something like sprints visual voicemail like on your hero. That's why I recommended the $2.99 upgrade to better youmail over free youmail. If you just want text visual voicemail then gv or free youmail both offer it. I based my recommendations based on your original question. Remember the nexus is vanilla android and not loaded with any sprint apps for better or worse. The better youmail is like an IPhone ..... one of the few things I personally like better on that phone.

Now NOMster here giving you advice seems to think $2.99 is too much to pay for the experience you requested. He likes gv. Great. You might also. I actually don't mind supporting developers if they make a great product at at modest price. I of course agree free is best if it works for me.
Please go on your computer and look at the demos of both and make a decision. Free might just be what you want but it seems you still haven't Googled these options ..... do you know anybody with an iPhone? Have them show you what their visual voicemail looks like. If you like it spend the $2.99 and get better youmail. It's not $50 .....

In fact read this review from android central..... it will help you decide.

Take care
