Root VM Problem, Only Getting SMS Voicemails

Hello, I'm running CM7 Stable and suddenly I'm no longer receiving Voicemails. All I get are SMS notifications of a voicemail. I then have to dial my number and retrieve the message through the Sprint system. I used to be able to just hit Voicemail on my home screen and it would show the voicemails for me to tap on and listen. I took it to the Sprint store and they tried to get it fixed but ended up telling me to Unroot and then come back. Well, I've had a hard time unrooting and was wondering if anyone knew a fix that I could try without unrooting?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

do you have the sprint voicemail on your phone?
here read this: How-To Reinstall Your Sprint Visual VM under CM7!!! - xda-developers
also here is the app as well: [APP] Sprint Visual Voicemail For Cyanogen - xda-developers

I looked this over, and this is for the Visual Voice Mail. Does anyone have any suggestions for the plain old Sprint Voicemail- not Visual?

the one that comes with the evo is the visual voicemail. not sure what you are looking for. those links are for the stock sprint visual voicemail.

I know this one.

What most likely happened is you installed a 3rd party text messaging app and then set it to default. This can cause your voicemail app to stop picking up that voicemails are available.

Have to google around for the fix that i used. But it has something to do with setting the stock messaging app as the default app again.

Edit: Settings->Applications->Manage->(text app)->Clear Defaults.

Edit2: did not read post feel dumb. This is relevant if your on a sense rom so please excuse me as i see myself out the door.

Visual voicemail is not the stock application with the eve 04 g. visual voicemail is a extra added service which is available free for 30 days and then you're charged for it after that.

i was never charged for visual voice when my phone was not rooted i used it for like 3 months before i rooted my phone. i have it now and not paying for it. in any case you will not be charged as i have it on mik3d right now. give it a go or you can use google voice as well.

With all due respect, this information is not 100% accurate. Sprint allows Evo4G customers (not sure about others) to access Visual Voicemail app on thier phone as part of the standard subscription(read:no extra cost). They do however have another feature known as Visual Voicemail to Text which costs 1.99$ per month after the first free 30 days.

Here is a link provided by another member that needs another thread. It's that importnant to get out to others, as a factory reset is NOT the answer (at lease for me). I tried all the rest and the problem for me was in my GoSMS or Handcent text messaging app.

Sprint Community: Having VVM issues (getting a text from...

Hope this helps! I'm happy and back to normal now!

thanx for that tip. but i think the main issue for the op was because he is on cm7 which has no vvm.

I never did get this fixed, I ended up going to Google Voice for my VM. Would still love to get it back to the way it was before.

Maybe I spoke too soon. I was able to leave myself a VM-no problem. I've disabled the Google VM. But now when someone calls, it just rings and rings never goes into VM. I've had my wife call me 3 times and the same result each time. Any ideas?
Thanks

So did you flash the latest gapps that includes the vvm app when you flashed the rom? If not, try it now. I haven't used CM7, but this worked for me on decks, salvagemod, and MIUI:

Latest GAPPS with the VVM fix, for any ASOP rom 2.3.3.or 2.3.4

Make sure once you disable Google voice you turn off the auto call forwarding. Let me look up the *code and post back.

OK I found the code for disabling call forwarding *740 and I did that. But, the calls are still coming in and not going to VM. Just keeps ringing.

*38 disables conditional call forwarding, which Google voice sets up. I had issues with Google voice when I was running aosp on my Hero, this did the trick.
