vodafone 2.1 update, any news??

I am with Vodafone, but when i connected my phone to my computer today and opened up SE PC Companion, I was provided with the option of updating Andriod to 2.1.

I'm with Vodafone in the UK too. But, says I'm on the latest software. Still on 1.6 (R2BA024). :(

I'm wondering how you got your update. Maybe you didn't get your phone direct through Vodafone, i.e. got your phone from Carphonewarehouse or mobiles4you or something - and they part debrand it or something???

AFAIK - anyone branded to Vodafone can't yet move from 1.6 (R2BA024) :(

Anyone else get 2.1 on Vodafone?

@disambiguation - You are correct, I got my phone trhough a third party, mobiles.co.uk, which is part of carphonewarehouse.

@Uzee - I am at work now so do nto have access to PC Companian, but on the home screen, one of the options is to update your phone, or to check for updates, something like that. I just clicked on it and I was led through the process step by step. I certainly didn't do anything clever, as I wouldn't know how!

So, can't anyone help with my questions above? I guess I'll have to ring SE :-(

@shearclass - Sorry I can't personally help you with your questions at the moment. But I will soon be looking into similar hopefully. When (if) I get the 2.1. update option, I have a whole load of contacts, apps, widgets, widgets configuration etc. etc. that I just don't want to lose; and need to know how to retain!

can anyone living in the uk plss contact local vodafone stores n find out about the 2.1 release date?

@shearclass - Thanks for your help

@disambiugtation - use the SE backup tool for everything. Stuff on memory card is untouched and not lost.

You would want to backup all the apps, i have an app for this - HOWEVER- the app kinda saves the app setup files. It doesnt save the settings etc. It is a good app tho - 'MyBackup Pro'

Thanks for your response.

FYI I am in the UK.

I followed to the letter the instructions provided by SE. I downloaded the latest back up and restore app from the SE website, www.m.sonyericsson.com/backup, and followed instructions to back up.

When i try to restore my contacts, it gets to 96% complete, sticks a bit, then confirms the restore is complete. However, i have no contacts still. if i go to my contacts, then import contacts from memory card, then Phone contact (the other option is my gmail account) i get an error message saying "Coul not read memory card ("No vCard file on memory card")

I don't know what thsi means. I tried to download the latest back up and restore function again for my updated phone. It downloaded fine, but when i try to install it, i simply get the message "Installation failed" with no reason why this has happened.

Any suggestions?

To my surprise, I've just checked my contacts as I've typed this, and some contacts have appeared in my phone book. However, these are not the contacst as i backed them up a couple of hours ago. I think they are my contacts that i backed up to sony ericsson synch when i got my phone a few weeks ago. I've majorly updated my contacts since then and I do nto want all these back on my phone.

a) how has this happened? Am i correct in thinking my phone is somehow automatically synching with SE Synch?

b) how do i stop this happening?

c) Any suggestions how i can retrieve the contatcs that i tried to back up to my card?

thanks very much for your help.

I just updated my phone .. the 2.1 Update was finally made available for us here... anyway .. i went through the same issues that you did .... well atleast i though i did ... after i updated and finished installing the update .. I tried restoring everything using the on board back up and restore... It restored everything perfectly except mt contacts .... every time i visited my phonebook .. It said no contacts .. but strnagely .. my msges had teh names and photos ... so it had to be somewhere... this wroked for me .. i dont know if your phone has teh same problem .. But its worth a shot ... when u open up contacts .. click on teh display option at teh top left corner... and it opens up a page that has a DISPLAY CONTACTS TAB .. Under that u have various options .. Like display ur fb contacts.. ur google contacts .. open up your google synced tab ,.. and under that ul see different options like system groups ... my contacts .. friends etc .... click on the tab that says "contacts" ... uncheck the rest if u dont need them ... and u should see ur phone contacts appear :) if this doesn work .. let me know .. il keep searching for othe options ..

Well im from the u.k on vodafone and there is no update on s.e available for me??? there are 3 people at work with x10 on vodafone, one of us got message saying to update and it worked but me and the other have no update available??? i rung vodafone up and they said there is no 2.1 update out yet, when i told them someone i worked with had it and i had seen it running they had no idea how. nor could they give me any idea when they were going to release official update... seriously does anyone know what is going on? vodafone look really crap on this situation they must know what is going on!!! i just re checked 1 min ago and still not there :( really pissed off!

@dalerogers: thanks for checking... i dont really want to debrand my phone, so im gonna wait... please keep annoying them so they hurry up :D

@dalerogers they were probably on vodafone but got it through a 3rd party like carphone warehouse so it's not branded so doesn't have to wait for vodafone to put all their crap on it.

I debranded and I'm running the nordic version and it works fine I didn't even had to re enter any internet settings or anything else

Vodafone released Android 2.2 today on the Samsung Galaxy S.................. so why the hell have we not got 2.1??????
Roll on April, leaving vodafone..............and getting an iphone............which i should have done long ago...................x10 will never, ever compete with the iphone..........simple as that!!!

My guess is the x10 android is harder to write for than the samsung. There's no roms out for the x10 yet and it depends what you want from a phone, x10 is way more customisable than an iphone but I agree it won't compete because most people don't want that in a phone.

I'm on Vodafone got it from phones 4 u so I'm guessing its not branded but I still cannot install the new software just says it's a up to date uve tries it through seus and via the phone

For anyone wondering, I've got 2.1 on Vodafone uk. If you don't have it yet, go to SE, download the update for PC companion first.

I found that in the 2.1 Discoveries section - I'm wondering how he got it... Does he have the proper Vodafone 2.1 Software do we think??? I have asked him so Im awaiting a reply...

I also asked Vodafone the other day and the guy I spoke to said they was no update for the X10.... Ok, so let me get this stright.... Vodafone dodn't know theres a Update, but yet SE have released it :/

I want to debrand mine but everything I touch when debranding (Eg... Iphone broke when I jailbroke it) seems to break... How safe is debranding???

I didn get a msg on My phone about the update .. I checked using SEUS .. and it was available .. so im guessing for most ppl that haven't recieved teh update yet , try installing PC companion and Seus .. should work after that

I'm on Vodafone in Ireland and was sick waiting for the update too, so I debranded with DaVinci Team and then got PC Companion to do the update and got 2.1.

No problems or anything but I did not have much info in the phone before I started so no worries about reainted information.

Okay Hi i only just found this place but i want to make some notations about what i managed to find out about the 2.1 update for SE X10 phones for those who have them on VF out here in Australia.

1. After spending a few hours on the phone with a rather helpful gentlemen from Sony Ericsson i found out that Vodafone AU has had the 2.1 update since the end of october, about the same time all other carriers here in aus got given the update to do their thing.

2. SE will not officially be releasing a 2.1 update for australia until a couple of months after the major phone companies have had their versions out.

3. According to a VF tech support employee they should have had the update ready and available to all vodafone customers by around the 14th.

Other than that according to some independent stuff i've read recently on a few sites it looks like VF AU customers may be waiting until mid/late december before they finally decide to release 2.1 for the X10.

End result, i'm in the que to talk to vodafone currently where i intend to voice my displeasure.

Anyway i hope this helps and thanks for your time.

Lol vodafone ain't got a clue they said A week ago they don't know when the update will be available so I just debranded my handset, Went smoothly as can be and I'm happier than I was when the phone was running on 1.6 firmware!!!

wait, so its out for UK too?
i have another question: my phone is vodafone UK branded, but im using it in egypt now, so do i have to wait till they release the middle eastern version or will i be able to upgrade when the vf UK update is released?

i got a txt waking me at about 4.30am saying an update was availiable so was hoping it was the 2.1 so pressed ok, when eventually woke up i checked and it still said firmware 1.6! pressed check for updates and it said to connect to a pc to update. so after doing that it just said your phone is up to date, which it clearly isn't!!! what was it actually updating with when it woke me up and if they can send out updates what you dont even know what is getting put on your phone then why cant they send the 2.1, when you get these updates you should get a txt letting you know whats just been updated to you know whats happening. well rant over..... ; )
