Help Voice clarity question

Just trying to figure out what is best. I have zero intentions in rooting this phone or any others. Im not really interested in making it into some kind of super phone like most on this site (way above my skills). I just need it to work when its suppose to. Will any of the updates that are suppose to come out fix the reception problem. If not, does anybody have any opinions on which route I should take for a stock phone. SF or the X.

Thats very prudent. Honestly, if you like the SF out of the box and you get the voice issues fixed stick with it. Equally true when you go to the vzw store check out the DX, you will be right there. Updates will be coming to the SF soon

Went to store and was told no tech on site anymore. Have to call a number. Told the salesman what was up and he did a hard reset on phone. Told me to try it and see if problem still there. So thats what I will do. You say udates are comming soon but will it fix my voice call problem?

Hard to say, if its a genuine hardware issue nothing will help and you need to replace the defective unit. How are things since the hard reset?

Hard reset didnt help. I tried the phone from most of the locations that I have been having problems and the problems are still there. To top it off I called my dad (long distance) and he said I sounded terrible. I was on the highway about 1 mile from the tower with full bars. My wife was with me and used her envy to call them back and sounded fine. I found out that if I talk on the speaker phone that the static noise goes away.???

call *611 and tell them your story and situation if the in store folks cannot get you hooked up right the *611 CS will

I was able to compare a D2 to my SF at work last night. Had my phone on the desk and it was going between 1 and 2 bars. Friend has a D2, he put his next to mine and his had full bars. He left it there for about 10mins and it never changed. Maybe I have a bad one but the same problems happen on the other SF. Let me say this. The other SF works fine where its being used but like I said before its used for mainly texting and social networks. Going to give it a few days and then make a decision.

Didnt see your *611 post while I was typing the other one. Ill give that a try also.
Yeah almost all of us have had very good experiences with those folks. Sometimes we get less than stellar service with the in store reps but *611 folks seem to be the cream of the crop. Always helpful and friendly :)

Talked to the tech. He thinks the phone might be a faulty device as far as the static, word skipping, and talking out of a can sound (possible bad mic). But not the reception. He said he has a X and his wife has the SF. He claims that they both get the same reception where ever they are togehter. Told him about my friends D2 at work. He said its possible (can not confirm) that the Motos will have a better reception since the D2 had more bars. He said to return the SF for another or switch to the moto. They are both great phones its will just have to be a personal preferance as to which one I want. But if I switch to the moto I will have to keep it if I have the same problems. Only alowed 1 swap to a different brand. But if I stay with the SF I can swap SF's as many times that I want to.

Yeah take it back to your local store. Although I thought that didnt go so well for you last time? Hopefully they let you switch it out for being defective. It might help if you kept the CS operators # or some kind of claim #

Got the techs name. The store wasnt very helpful but did offer to replace it or swap it out for the X when I was in there yesterday. I know I have 30 days to to figure out what I want to do. The problem is, I will be out of town for the last 10. So I only have 20 to get this done. This is one of the reasons I posted in the forum. I needed to get as many answers as possible to help me make a decision between the SF and X. I guess I can go tomorrow and swap it for another SF and give that one till Saturday and see if I still have a problem. It would be nice if the store had a X to loan me to try in the areas Im having problems.

Do you like the SF, or your wife's? Both the DX and the SF have different fan bases although a lot of current SF users have come from the DX and a few SF's go to the DX.
Just because you got a dud SF the first time you are very likely to get a good SF the second time

I do like the SF. The phone is pretty sweet. Just not the reception/voice problem with it. The phone I was on before the SF was an envy like hers. But the tech told me, its hard to compare the envy to a smartphone. The envy and other basic phones were designed for 2 things, talk and text. The SF and others like it were designed to do everything. I will take it back and get another. This will probably be the smart thing to do. Thanks for your inputs saps. We will see tomorrow if the new phone works any better

Will do saps. Thanks for the help and replies.
Most welcome. I sure do you hope you get a good fix. Sometimes people have problems with the in stores reps that why I steered you towards the phone reps

Will do. Store rep was a little surprised I brought it back. Told me if this didnt work ou then may have to switch to a dfferent device. Wife told me I sounded better so now I just need to check on the reception. The store rep I talked to today seemed to know his stuff. So we will see. Sucks that I have to get this phone set up all over again. Ill give this one till Sat and see how it is.

Im at one of the places i was having problems. Bad news, i still sound the same. Even more bad news, i just got through making a call from a X and it sounded fine. The main complaint from here is background noise. The SF seems to pick it up more and the X didnt. The SF had 2 bars on antenna and the X was maxed out. Still going to try it at other places but this is one of the places that i need it to work. Crap....

Well, if you think you will like the DX, it certainly is no slouch. In the end you own personal user experience will tell and show you wish is best for you

Well i have been watching this thread to see what decision you were going to make. I am in the same boat you are but way past my 30 days. Changed fascinate 3 time and still having call quality issues. Sad to say but I don't think there a just a few bad ones out there like some claim. I wish I had changed to the X as it has way better call quality. I work in a noisy environment and the facsinate just sucks. People hear way too much background noise to the point where they tell me its ridiculous. So it is what it is I don't care what people tell you. The fascinate has issues with this and because its everything BUT a descent phone people just ignore it and just talk about the positives. I may just dish out 300 dollars and get the X I don't know. Since you still have time go ahead and change to the X. Test it in the store before you buy. Call some one from the X then from the fascinate and ask them which one sounded better. I can almost guarantee you the X will get the thumbs up.
