Help Vzw - Google Voice search is TERRIBLE

veccster

Android Enthusiast
I can't get it to work at all. I say "call mark" and it wants to call walmart. I say"navigate to 315 Arthur drive" and it does a Google search for exactly that.
I can't get it to pull any contacts or even do something simple.

My wife's Droid Incredible works flawlessly.

Anyone else have this issue?

Are you using the stock Voice Search app (dumb question, I know)? I haven't used the voice search but voice to text has worked very well for me. Are you speaking quickly or do you have a strong accent?

Works well for me. I do far more complicated requests than just call xyz.
I'll often do, navigate 1234 so-and-so street, san francisco, california. Or map of xyz restaurant, new york, new york.

Accuracy is about 17 out of 20 times. I know that when it doesn't work I am in a hurry and speaking too quickly or in a noisy places with sudden loud sounds like PA announcements or train whistle that follows my voice commands.

Wow... Wonder if it's a problem with the phone. If I could show you the crazy shit it comes up with...you'd laugh your ass off.

No accent at all and I speak very clearly. actually, my voice to text works perfectly with swiftkey keyboard.

Yes, I am trying to use the stock Google voice search.

What could I try to fix? I might just go in for a replacement because it has some other issues too.

veccster,

Find an app that will allow you to record your voice using the phone - record a couple of commands you would give and play them back to see if they sound like you / normal. I'd also try things like have someone else give the phone the exact same command to see if the result is different and (if possible) do the same test on someone else's GNex. (Easier said than done I know - there is a lot of sour fruit out there.)

Yes...good point. I will hit my local Vzw store next week and try a few commands on the demo phone.

My same commands work perfectly on a stock DInc. It's odd that my results are much different on this phone

works great for me :D

Vlingo, dragon go, iris(siri backwards)
Try some of these. None of them seem to understand "call Raven" though.
they all think I'm saying "graven"
Oh well. Direct dial shortcut, Raven.

I had an issue with this on my Samsung Fascinate a long while back and found a piece of lint in my microphone. You may want to ask people if they can hear you ok when you talk to them or even try using the commands over bluetooth as well.

Certainly try a 3rd party app, but if that fails, follow OTD's recommendation.
