(VZW) Just updated to 4.04 Yet still drop 4G??

So was prompted to update this morning to the new software version, I have noticed a few changes like the fade affect and the times on when u get mesg's etc.. but when i made a call this morning my signal went completely dead and and drop the call. It took a few sec's to re-up. I was under the impression that this bug was suppose to be fixed, Is anyone else's phone still droping signal.??

Signal is improved with 4.0.4 but it's still not perfect. If you are in a weak signal area, dropped calls are still to be expected unfortunately.

Ugh... just noticed your location. While I live in York, I have been working in Wash DC for a couple months now. Compared to York I find DCs 4G service to be horrible. Very, very weak, very spotty, sort of in-and-out. I would think an area like DC would have the strongest possible signal everywhere, but I often manual drop back to 3g just to get a consistent bandwidth.

I also spend a fair amount of time in Baltimore, Towson to be exact, and the 4G service there is incredible. Always a strong signal, and very good speeds.

I know the GNex has some radio issues, but there is really something wrong with the 4G service in DC.

If you're losing data AND voice and it's happening more than once every week or more, then it sounds like you have bad hardware.

ALL LTE phones that have ever been released have complaints of signal dropping. despite this, there are persistent forum threads blaming each phone. it's the network not the phones, people.

i used to have it daily when i first got my GN, now it's rare. all my other LTE phones do this as well.

It's a combination of things, but if it happens frequently each day is is a KNOWN hardware problem. Look at that google bugs thread if you don't believe me.

I also find it hard to believe in my case that I held 3 Nexuses in the same day and the 3rd one didn't drop at all but the first two dropped multiple times an hour. So that's the network?

I've seen more defects in the ones from China, than SKorea.

4.0.4 didn't fix my data or mobile network disconnects either, unfortunately. I will say that they do appear to happen less frequently. Going to exchange one more time.

Does yours do what is described here? And frequently (as in 10 times a day or more?)? If so, I'm 99% sure you have bad hardware and need to replace your device.

Its only the LTE that is messing up everything else is fine no reboots or other bugs so maybe it is the new network and no i dont drop that often (when on 3G)

Couple of things. The known hardware bug:

a) does NOT happen if you have the phone in CDMA-only mode
b) when it does happen, it kills all the radios. E.g. 1x (voice), 3G, LTE all go *poof* and come back about a minute or so later (some have reported they don't come back at all and requires an airplane mode toggle or in some extreme cases a reboot). In my case with the defective phones, it always came back on its own within a minute.

Dropping from 4G to 3G is one thing. That's not what I'm talking about. Losing ALL radios because the LTE radio grenades everything is not normal and it IS a hardware problem.

I'm just trying to ensure people don't keep a clearly faulty device when they should be exchanging it for a good device.

But by all means, continue to tell people it's normal.
