VZW M8 4.4.3 Update Issues?

kratos

Back on my throne!!!
I know there are a couple threads about the VZW M8 4.4.3 update, but neither of them really are listing any major or minor issues that users are experiencing. Therefore, please use this thread to post any issues you have come across with this update.

I do not yet have this update installed, but do have the nag notification and have been pushing it off for the last few hours. I know that eventually it will just auto install, probably overnight, since there is no possible way to stop it without root.

I've had zero issues.... Phone updated on day one of the update release. I did a full reboot after it installed... and everything has been smooth..

Same here no issues but I do see a decrease in the battery life from when I first got the phone. Pretty disappointing really. Battery use to get me through 7am-5pm and with about 70% battery with minimal use at work, now I have to charge it at work. I was hoping to see some improvement with that in this update but no go and maybe a little worse.

Right after the update the battery did go down faster than normal but by the next day it actually seems to have improved beyond what it was like before the update. Nothing scientific here but I had a G2 before the M8 and it had a great battery, and this one seems to be on par with the G2. ;)

I don't mean to go off-topic, but if I could just get a clarification...if I'm rooted and run the update, will I lose root? If so, is there any way to get it back (short of spending the money on Sunshine)?

Thanks all.

I haven't had issues either... On top of that i just switched to ART runtime to see if it's stable enough with the update and also to see if there are any noticeable benefits. So tsar so good... But more to come.

You will lose root. I don't know of a way to get it back unless your s-off. If your already s-off you will keep s-off and no need to use sunshine. If your s-on, sunshine is currently the only working way to get s-off short of spending $600 or more for a java card if you can find one.

Htc m8 updated now certain websites will not allow email to be entered or my surname. I just get an error and invalid email or invalid surname.

Also this happens with any browser I use chrome, stock, dolphin, opera and mozzila

Seemed like I had some battery issues on the second day after I installed it, but all is better now. Side note: Did the Do Not Disturb option in quick settings used to spell it out or did it always say DND?

I noticed that about DND too. I think it used to be spelled out.

hi guys. i updated my HTC M8 2 days ago and the battery life of the phone has been shockingly bad. from charging my phone once every 2 days, i now have to charge it twice a day..........what is going on????
in the battery usage area it shows the 'android system' is using 80% 0f the battery, this is different from the 'android OS' which is listed differently. whats that about`?

I also lost my weather based screen saver, its the one which displays the appropriate weather pattern on the home screen......absolutely awesome. now can find it.

Thanks dautley.

Apologies for the perhaps newbieish follow-up questions, but maybe having them in an additional place might help others as well:

1) My M8 downloaded the update and keeps prompting me to install it. As I am rooted, how can I disable the reminders?

2) How can I verify whether I'm s-off?

3) If I am s-off and I take the update and lose root, how do I reestablish root? (possibly pertinent: I'm on Verizon)

Thanks again!

In the future please post all root questions to One M8 - All Things Root - Android Forums
but I'll try to help you here.

1. Yes but it will involve renaming some files.
go to your system/app folder and rename the following files from from .apk to .bak
HtcOMADM_SettingsPlugin_VZW.apk
HtcOMADM_VZW.apk

For questions 2 and 3 read through http://androidforums.com/one-m8-all-things-root/854630-new-s-off-method-released-sunshine.html

My battery issues have gone away also, 81% after 9 hours today.

Has anyone had trouble with Google Play Movies? You Tube and Netflix works fine, just Google Play Movies are giving a "There was an error" message.

Battery issues here as well. To the tune of 10% per hour with moderate use. Used to be half that. By noon I'm down to 50% our less and out used to be 75%

Well, after reading through this topic and other places across the internet, it doesn't sound like there are any major issues with this update being reported. I couldn't really find anyone complaining about any issues with it and the only real complaint here is battery life for the first couple days after update.

Therefore, I have decided to hit the Install Now button and am waiting for my phone to reboot now. It went through the whole Installing Software from Verizon Wireless once and then the screen flashed and it looks like it is doing it again. It almost looked like it was going through a boot loop with the software update. It flashed to the installing screen like 4 times after the progress bar had already hit 100%. The third time it flashed, it showed the progress bar go about half way and then it flashed to the White HTC screen (the one where it says "Powered By Android" at the bottom), went to the install screen again and then finally rebooted properly.

Only thing I can guess is that it was installing to different partitions each time and instead of doing it all at once, it did each separately with a reboot in between.

Needless to say, my M8 is finished rebooting and I am just giving it some time to "settle in" before I put it through it's paces.

As I use my phone normally over the next week or so, I will report anything I see that doesn't seem right.

Thanks for everyone's insights and info. I sure hope I don't end up with the issues I experienced with the GS4.

I can confirm the same exact type of decrease with battery life as well. I did a full wipe and format and the issue still exists.

The only thing I can think of doing is wiping the phone again but that's always time consuming. With moderate to heavy use I drain 10% every half hour. It definitely wasn't this bad prior to the update.

Today is Day 1 for me and as of the time I have posted this message, my battery seems to be running normal. I listen to Play Music Streaming all day at work and by about 2 in the afternoon (starting between 6:30 and 7 in the morning) I am usually between 65 and 70% remaining.

Right now at 1356, I am at 64%, which seems to be right in line with how it was last Friday, before I took the update. Media Server and Play Music are my top battery users at 13% and 11% respectively, which again is right in line with "normal" for my phone.

Just throwing this out there since I (knock on wood) and not seeing a huge battery drain that is "abnormal".

Had issues with Spotify crashing after the update and the camera crashing and not working. Did a factory reset and then things were fine. Camera crashed again today though and I had to restart the phone. Very frustrating if I want a quick picture! Luckily both times it wasn't that situation. This better not be a pattern. However my notification light works great now and it never once worked before the update.

No camera issues here after the update, keep us undated on this.
