I was just refunded ( via phone rep / 611 ) $100 after telling them i saw it for $148 at my local Wal Mart
She refunded me the tax , 8.75% (California) which was an additional $43 . She then just rounded up and said she would make it an even $100.How did you get $100 back after you only paid $51 more?
What did you say?
Thanks
jon

For those who got it at their local Walmart store and were on a Family plan, were you able to keep you 550 min plan or did they force you to select a higher plan like they do when you buy from Walmart.com. Also, was this for the primary line only or can it be used for any other line?
One of the reasons I gave on on Walmart this round was because they said they couldn't honor my existing FamilyTalk 550 plan. They said that they would have to bump me to 700 or 900 or whatever.
They said to just extend my FamilyTalk 550 plan I'd have to go to AT&T. When I asked why they couldn't upgrade me, he was like "Ask AT&T. We can only sell the plans they let us".

I'm actually pretty surprised about a $100 refund vs. a phone that was ~$50 more, especially from AT&T.

Unless if I am wrong, if you bought it at att, youw ould of paid the tax on the full $500, not the $199 price. At least this was what happened when I bought my iPhone.

It just seemed like a math discrepancy
Never heard of what you're describing - you pay tax on the amount of the purchase, I bought mine for $199, paid $12.94 in tax (upgrade price from AT&T).
No matter, if the guy got a good deal, great for him!![]()
In California the law states that you pay tax on the full purchase price of the item. Since all these prices are technically rebates. Now if the price of the phone was actually slashed to $99 you would pay tax on the $99.

I was able to keep my FamilyTalk 550 plan when I got my phone at wal-mart, along with the unlimited data plan.
When I saw this post, I went to walmart's website and saw that they have the Captivate for $99 for renewals and new contracts. So, last night, I went to the at&t store where I bought the my phone and told them that Walmart has the phone for $99 (when I walked in I asked to speak to a manager). I explained that I've already confirmed that the walmart price is for a renewal and I that I'm able to keep my unlimited data plan. I told them that I realized I would have to play a restocking fee of $35 if I returned the phone at at&t so I am only requesting a refund of $65 so I don't have to deal with returning the phone.
The manager credited my account $65.
