Walmart salesperson

Thought y'all might get a kick out of this...

I was messing around at Walmart over the weekend, trying to find out if there was any "wiggle room" in their pricing of the Captivate and if was expected to go back on sale any time soon. I didn't really expect the sales guy to know this -- I was really just killing time. But as soon as I started asking questions about Captivate, he snorted something like, "Well, I recommend the iPhone anyway."

I said, "Really? You know nothing about me or how I intend to use my phone and yet you already have a 'recommendation' for me? And what about the iPhone do you prefer over the Captivate? Is it the 5 year old LCD display technology? Maybe the fact that you can't replace the battery or add more memory? Wait, I'll bet it's because of the crippled bluetooth that only works with headsets? Tell me, which of these awesome features makes you so certain that the iPhone is for me?"

To which he muttered something about iTunes and went back to what he was doing! :rolleyes:

Im assuming you know that Walmart employees are NOT corporate ATT employees and they do NOT work on commission?

Hope so......

And not that i am any type of Apple fanboy, but 5 year old LCD technology? Please tell me you are referring to the 3GS. Not the iPhone 4 w/Retina display......

Well you can't blame the guy. Think about who shops at Wal-Mart. Average Joe. He was doing his job and you felt the need to go on a tirade to him. Why would you ask questions about the Captivate anyways if all you needed was the price which they have on display? Sounds like you walked in wanting to cause such a scene.

Superstores are the worst place to ask any product specific questions. Most of the time clerks are only good for directing where a product is.. There is just too much different stuff at those stores to know much about anything they sell.

Didn't know WM had any "wiggle room" on cellphone pricing. Sounds like you were looking to "trap" the salesperson with your "superior knowledge" on the subject. Looks like a thread to bang WM again. You should avoid even going into one of their stores;)

Wow, what an accomplishment! A rather "broad brush" to paint all WM associates isn't it? Covers over 3000 stores with one million employees. WM "dumb" earning x billions of dollars each year. Who's dumb? The customer who spends their money there or WM who rakes in the $;)

And you jump on him because he is referred to a iPhone. What brought this referral on? Marketing.

It's fun to do this kind of stuff sometimes, if someone is going to say you should buy an inferior product they better at least have a reason. Otherwise they should just answer your question and move on if they really know nothing about what they are selling. I just hate salesman that talk about things incorrectly and hope you really don't know more than they do, and yes I have worked as a salesman, I just made sure I knew what I was selling.

BTW, I like to mess with Taco Bell employees. It is always fun to hand them an amount of money they don't expect and watch them try to figure it out. :cool:

It is better to let someone wonder about your intelligence than to open your mouth and remove all doubt if you got the short end of the stick when it comes to being smart. Like I said if a salesman has no clue what he is talking about he shouldn't be recommending an inferior product. At least if he had reasons, wrong or not, he might have been justified, I just hate salesmen that try to sell you something without having a clue about what they are selling.

Also no one has any excuse for not being able to figure out how to count money if that's the part of my post you were commenting on.

The thing is, inferiority is relativity. Are thongs inferior products because you don't wear them? No, it's a matter of preference, something people seem to have trouble dealing with.

No one has an excuse to purposefully go into a store and harass people who are serving you. It's a matter of manners, and you appear to have none.
 
I hate people like this... just kindly tell him you don't prefer the iPhone and ask your initial question: was there any way to get the deal on the phone you came looking for.

You don't have to be an ass to him because he prefers the iPhone... yeesh. I know I'm severely biased against the thing, and I'd do as much educating on Android as I could for someone to try to show them it's got more capabilities, but I'm not gonna be an arrogant stuck-up ass hole to someone based on their liking and opinions...
 
How are we to know what the whole experience was really like?,or what transpire,yes the op could have taken a different approach but not being there and knowing how the sale guy reacted, his body language and how the conversation was going, how can we truly say who is in the wrong.

Hey guys, please... I was not looking to cause trouble. I was just there and thought I'd ask about the possibility of getting a Cappy for less than $150. And I was not rude with the guy. It may have sounded that way from my post, but I was not at all rude.

It just made me mad that he so casually made a "recommendation" without having a clue what my needs are. I was simply making a point.

The Walmart associate recommended one of the top selling smartphones (iPHone). Its easy to use and easy to teach to use. That being said, i dont blame him for shooting for the iPhone first. You can walk into most ATT stores and that will be their first recommendation. Which, i honestly cannot blame them.

(or if you are talking about the OP...he went to a Wal-Mart store where they represent several different carriers)...
