Want a boost in performance? Gumbo custom kernel!

I installed it last night. Seemed to make the phone much snappier. After unplugging the phone from the charger this morning, the phone had 100% awake time for a few hours. It was real hot in my pocket. After a soft reset, the awake time dropped to 22% and the phone is running cool. My phone has not had a problem with awake time since I bought it. Hopefully this was just some glitch unrelated to the kernel.
 
Would anyone please upload gumbo /proc/config.gz to rapidshare please? I just want to diff kernel config files.

Update plus 6 hours, no keyboard lag while txting. I do have lag while typing in the browser though. Phone function works a lot better. No notice in battery drain. Def a keeper of an update.

Installed over ttg rom no hitch
Screen orientation in handsent, browser, market almost instant
Boot to full load is amazing and thats without setcpu installed
Just installed setcpu to play with but I really dont think its necessary
Ive been trying everything out there to get android to function like this since I bought the phone :)
 
I've read the XDA forum thread.

The posted HTC Hero Signed version is different than the ones others have posted...

Just wanting clairity on which one.. Should we use the one post on XDA's thread that the first OP posted?

Wow, the phone is performing unbelievably fast!! I installed the zip file but I also installed setcpu. Is setcpu really necessary if other than running intensive apps like games? It seems I have a little more battery drain than before but not sure if it's because of setcpu or gumbo.
 
You don't even need SetCPU to notice a difference. The kernel itself is very fast and snappy. SetCPU just adds that extra awesome to it.

Good. Because SetCPU isnt working for me. I set it to ondemand, close program, open program... its set on performance. Set it to ondemand, hit refresh, tap on advanced.... "ondemand must be enabled to use advanced menu"

I uninstalled the app, got a refund, rebooted the phone, bought the app again... same thing.

on another note... I wish there was another (kinder) option when uninstalling an app. I need more room, its defective, id rather not say. Why cant it just say "changed my mind" or "reinstalling"
 
Just installed the less aggressive version, I guess we'll see how it goes.

Update:
Transitions are deffinately faster.
Downloaded setcpu, just wondering what are the optimal settings?
It shows me having about 50 mb ram free right now, before it usually stayed around 25-30. Is that the same results others are having, with the less aggresive one? So far I have to say it was definately worth the 5 minutes it took to install.

I am getting this behavior on a stock ROM. I however am for sure rooted. (I use wifi tether all the time)

Any ideas?
 
I had setCPU set to powersave and the min was at 245. I got a phone call and couldn't even answer it. Anyone else experiencing this? I changed back to ondemand with a minimum of 160 and max of 528, I guess we'll see how it goes. I just want to get better battery life.

Which update did you choose.. The agressive one or the less agressive one?

I am trying to decide which one to do.

Just did the update.

My internal memory stayed the same before and after update: 94 out of 150 used.

Speed of phone appears to be the same as well. Keyboard is faster to turn when in landscape mode.

Running fresh 1.1

Man I really want to do this update...
I know I am a noob but I follow directions well and I have not been able to find a solution. I know the phone is rooted but this process from Dreamliner isn't working.

If anyone can point my nose in the right direction on this I would be much obliged.

Im new to all this myself but all I did was use the pre-kitchen to load the app and then reboot in recovery mode applied the zip and bingo. Happy with it so far. Very noticable.
