Root :Want to flash, but I'm nervous bc it's my 1st time.

I'm not new to android (got the myTouch 4G on launch), but I've never tried rooting a phone. I've been doing research 4 about 2-3 wks, but am still a bit concerned. I've read that cm7 & miui are the best. I'm probaly gonna do cm7. And yes I'm aware of hmdi not working. Can someone start me off in the right direction? I've been going over 'All things root', XDA, & a couple of Triumph hack sites, but everyone starts in a diff place. From what I've gathered do a nandroid back up 1st, then gingerbreak, after that I have no clue. I have also read that I need versions dated AFTER Sept. So if someone would be so kind as 2 get me moving in the right direction it would be appreciated! TIA!
 
Don't be nervous. This phone is phenomenally hard to mess up. Even if you do have an issue, 99.9% of the time we can walk you through fixing it.

I wrote a guide to getting a custom recovery and ROM on your phone.

It goes step by step. Follow that, and read the first few CM7 posts about the specific instructions on flashing that ROM. If you have any other questions ask and we will sort you out!

ok ok, all jokes aside.

the Triumph is the easiest phone to mod.

boot into download mode, replace the stock recovery with CWM recovery, rename it "recovery.img" so the phone knows to use it. boot into recovery, nandroid backup the stock rom.

NO ROOTING NEEDED!!!!

next, save the backed up nandroid somewhere safe like your PC.

put CM7 with the gapps file on the SD card, or MIUI if you want to use that.

follow the quide to flashing roms, wipe system, cache, and dalvik.

for cm7, flash the rom then flash gapps, then reboot. do NOT reboot between flashing either one, they must be done one right after the other.

for MIUI you can just flash it, reboot into it, and start using it.

thats the concept of WHAT do to and in what order, the quides should help with the details. just remember to stick to this order or actions

 
It is so easy to do that you have nothing to worry about, just fallow the guide. Complete noob myself and put cm7 on my triumph the first day I got it.

Yeah, its easy enough (especially with the text and video guides) that I think I could talk my mother through it. She has trouble with anything tech-wise more complicated than a stick.

Aw man, you beat me to it lol.

Sabswifey, I was a bit overwhelmed too when I started out, and I was worried that rooting would mess up my phone and be irreversible, but I was able to get over these initial fears. Just follow the instructions to the letter and you should be all right. If you mess up anything, don't be afraid to post on here...we'd be glad to help.
 
I flashed mine two nights ago... not that the neighbors appreciated it (RIMSHOT) :D

It was super super easy! I followed the guide linked above, along with the videos. It was so easy I was sure I missed something, but it booted as advertised and is running great!

flashed CM7 yesterday with great help from these guys, trust me its EASY!!! this is my first smartphone and im loving it even more now [ GPS locks faster, battery lasts long, more free RAM [no bloatware], and i have friggin GINGERBREAD!!! i can run just about anything on the market now. No more "this app is not compatible with your device" very happy with CM7 :D:D:D
