War against Android !!!

Even if say Android DOES fall a part, what good would that be to RIM. Apple is already dominant in this business so far.

Suddenly we go from discussing to trolling?

Android has the market share by over ten percent. iOS just recently (as in the last couple of months) passed BlackBerry to garner the number two position. RIM is committing suicide yes, but that doesn't suddenly give the title to anyones favorite player.

and in addition they really need to think about the 'non-executive' class like me who uses mobile for virtually EVERYTHING.
 
I want RIM to offer competitive products that consumers want. This way of trying to beat down Android isn't the way to go about it.

RIM needs to innovate.

Honestly, I want RIM to not do this. I want RIM to do what they're good at. Secure mobile products. I don't want them to die off, but the cornerstone of RIM is that you know your data is as safe as it can be on a mobile phone. No question in my mind. Both iOS and Android have lagged, and will continue to lag, behind RIM in this regard. But there is only so much security you can have when you connect to Facebook and Twitter.

I think that when BBs can run Android apps, I'd be surprised if RIM doesn't do at least a small bounce in sales because of it.
 
RIM's marketshare is declining in the US but is actually rising in Europe and Asia (note iOS actually declined in Europe). Much of what RIM has recently gained appears more on Nokia's expense and the ever decreasing featurephone market.
 
i would rather see webos make a comeback... and let RIM die. RIM does not seam to know what the public wants.. they are stuck.

i think that: IOS, android, wp, webos
each has something unique and give each other a lot of pressure to do better.
all to the benefit of you and me.

LOL true dat... I do like the swipe feature on webOS... and I'm a long time Palm OS user, from the very first Palm Pilot.
 
Apple is googles only true opponent in this industry. The recent string of lawsuits apple has filed against amazon, HTC, and samsung are simple proof of that. This is pretty much taking a hit at google without actually filing against them. Not to mention that android phonesare now over 40% of the smartphone market where as apple dropped from 32% to 18% this year. A group of college students are the least of googles worries. A group of kids against a team of lawyers that represent a multi-billion dollar corperation... Who do you think wins.

It would be sad to see RIM fail because it is kind of a toss up who started the smartphone craze between them and Palm. I would have to say RIM because of the Pearl fad.
 
Whatever is happening to RIM today is their own fault. No bright ideas, no innovation, few apps in the market and way too much security. Fine everything is well secured on mobile devices but to be honest, I personally don't give a crap about too much security on my mobile as I have got my laptop whch does the secure stuff part for me.
 
I never cared about RIM and BBs, but as pointed above, the choice is simple: innovate or perish!

Look at Nokia - failure to innovate and complete ignorance of the market and competitors brought them to their knees.

Blaming other successful companies/OSs is a failed attempt to justify their own choices.
