Root WARNING - Do Not Use ROM Manager!!!

i think i may of messed my phone up because the other day i put cyanogen mod 7 on my htc desire, but when i saw a video on youtube the other day i realise i have done it all wrong. I think that i have deleted the original rom off of the phone/sd card and would really like to go back to the android 2.2 and try putting cyanogen mod 7 on properly. Is there any way of getting the phone back to factory spec if a lot of things have been deleted?

Just wipe and flash again. Have you read the rooting faq in the all about rooting sticky? Assuming you have a desire

No probs.

Feel free to ask any questions that arent answered by the faq in the faq thread.

ok some of the stuff i could almost understand. but what i want to do is to get the phone back too its original state when i first bought it with android 2.2 on it i think. i dont suppose you know the process i need to follow to get that do you?

Download the correct RUU and run it from your pb whilst connected in fastboot mode (hold back when turning on the phone)

Probably best to start a new thread.if you have any more queries as its nothing to do with Rom manager

Hey guys I'm just another newbie trying to get around to rooting my desire. I'm finding it a little confusing. I just read that ROM managers are to be avoided. Then there's the SLCD and AMOLED differences, ARA build (which mine isn't) differences mentioned in suRoot's tutorial, hboot required of not, etc.
I was hoping for someone to point me in the right direction and maybe a decent tutorial fight from rooting to installing a custom ROM (Considering [ROM][03/06][STABLE][Sense2.1+3.0 GB]InsertCoin CM7 HBOOT/STOCK 1.0.8

that i found @ [ROM][03/06][STABLE][Sense2.1+3.0 GB]InsertCoin CM7 HBOOT/STOCK 1.0.8 - xda-developers)

Hardware:
SLCD model of the HTC Desire A8181 [UNBRANDED]

Software Information:
Android version 2.2
Software number - 2.13.720.2

Please guide me to a tutorial that will help me understand the process better. Sorry for the newbie question but i thought i was confident till just around 20 minutes ago when i was about to start the rooting process.

the guides that are there explain things step by step, you couldnt get it any simpler. it seems complex because its a lot of information but all things need to be covered.

this thread is not for your questions, this is about rom manager

please read the guides again and if you have any issues post in the relevant threat or create your own

I had no problems with Rom Manager ... can this be only for some phone models? U scared me now :) i didnt see this WARNING nowhere else ...

As stated, this relates specifically to the HTC Desire. As far as we are aware, other phones are not affected. It appears to be an incompatability with the latest HTC desire rooting methods and ROM manager.

This is as much as we can say.

I have a question but first I must apologise...

I read these forums, every day, and post occasionally so when I Root my phone i decide to follow someone else’s guide. DUH!!!! So I’m sorry for not using your guide SUroot.

Anyway, I have rooted using unrevoked everything went fine, installed ROM Manager and did its “flash clockworkMod” it says i’m running 2.5.0.7. All as instructed on this other guide then got distracted for a bit. Read this thread and went OH!!!

My question is can I just remove RM and all is fine, or is there some files I need to delete, a reference was made to an update.zip in this thread, does that have to go too?? Or am i better just running unrevoked again?

So do I just delete the update.zip file and uninstall RM? or has it screwed things up more than that?

I've not done anything else, ie install rom's or anything, and I'm hoping to prevent the mess a lot of people get into with this program...

if your rom is still working and usb functionality is still there then you are fine
uninstall rom manager and remove the update.zip file from the root of /sdcard

from now on just access recovery via voldown+power to boot
most custom roms now have "reboot > recovery" option in the power menu which will take you to the unrevoked hard flashed recovery which you should be using

Unless you made a Nandroid back up, you can't have it exactly as it was.

Only kidding,
Look up a 2.2 Sense ROM, Just flash that. Then that will be just a 2.2 rooted stock ROM With maybe a few extras like a2sd depending which you get.

Hi everyone,

I have the same problem with my desire... :-(
After i used rom manager to back up my rom, my desire cannot read sd card anymore even i tried other sd card.
I tried to ruu my desire, but i failed as " version-main failed " while i am doing ruu,
Can anyone help me? My desire cannot receive signal as well.

How i use RUU:
<power + volume down>
go to h boot 0.93
choose "fastboot"
plug use cable to link desire and PC
and then run ruu.exe
I have tried a lot of different ruu, but they are the same

please read the thread i linked a few posts back. you will need to do what is on there.
doing an RUU will not fix the usb/sdcard brick
also the error you are getting is either because you are using an aftermarket cable or your usb port is underpowered (try using a different port that is deffo usb2)

I use HTC official usb cable.
Now i am downloading "pb99img.zip" and follow your guide posted in the first page. Hope it's work.
I am worried whether the device can detect the "pb99img.zip" or not in Hboot0.93.

One more thing, My English is not good. Forgive my word and mistake.
I really cannot find any solution from Chinese form, that's why i search in google, looking for some help. Then i am here.
