[Warning] Official 2.1

I guess I'll just have to watch the forums to know when I'll be able to root since I upgraded to the official 2.1.
It's ok, though, I've been waiting for the update for months anyway...

so I am new to this whole rooting thing. I updated my hero to 2.1 yesterday. I had the hero since it came out unrooted. If and when there is a way can someone please help me root my phone? thanks all jeffpope0@comcast.net

as stated in the very first post of this thread and in HUGE letters..if you updated to the Official 2.1 Sprint release..you CANNOT root your phone at the moment..

so apparently you dont know how to read! said IF and WHEN there is a way, do you know what IF and WHEN means?

"Its hard to soar like an eagle when there is a bunch of turkeys around you!"

have no fear... when (not if) they get the recent 2.1 release rooted it'll be posted all over this forum with a step by step tutorial on how to do it...

(possible) stupid questions alert! fyi, i am on fresh 1.1...

1) post #1 above says "be patient and wait". i know it's only been a week, but just curious - is the "official 2.1" out? i.e. is fresh 2.1.2 based off the official 2.1 or is it still technically a leak and sprint has yet to roll it out?
2) in any event, if/whenit rolls out, i'm pretty sure from reading these forums that i have to wipe first, then install fresh 2.1.2...but will it keep all my home screen settings, widgets, contacts, calendar, etc? or will i have to set up from scratch again? on the same note, how about apps i've DL'd from market?

i know i know, prob stupid questions, but i seem to find conflicting info when i do a search.

thanks in advance.

yes.. Fresh 2.1.2 is based on the official release. So was Fresh 2.1.1..

going from Fresh 1.1 to 2.1.2 you are required to wipe Dat and Davlik. this will reset teh phone completly. all contacts that are not google contacts will be lost. all screen settings will be lost. all apps that you added will be removed. any apps you paid for will show in the market under my downloads.
free apps won't show in my downloads. all apps will require installing again

I believe free apps show under my downloads the first time you go to the market. They did for me. Until i forgot, and closed the market while re-installing one of the apps, then when i returned, the rest of my free apps were no longer there.

noted...so i just installed mybackup pro. disregarding contacts/calendar (i can resync from outlook) this app should solve my problem, correct? i merely need to do a backup before i update to 2.1.2 then restore...?

I haven't used MyBackUp Pro. What I did was took digital photos of my home screens, so I could set them up the same. I know, lame, but it worked. There are some screen shot programs available, but i think they require root.

The first leak from sprint had the new boot loader and was rooted. Is it possible to reload that rooted release and add a custom rom then or does the new boot loader make that impossible? Would be nice to get root but that release was too glitchy.

if you upgraded to the official 2.1 Sprint release then you're stuck with it.. no going backwards..even to the rooted leak.

Just bought my Hero yesterday and updated to 2.1 (1.5 on stock being sold). I had been using a Vogue that I had unlocked first for WinMo 6.5 and then for various Android builds. I just assumed that Android would remain fairly open, allowing smarter folks than I to root pretty simply. Ah, well. I'll wait till someone figures it out and will then add and remove the things I need and don't care for, respectively.

Unfortunately, from what I've read, the new hboot checks the ROM to make sure that it is signed with HTC signatures. So, adding a different ROM to the package won't work because the package wouldn't be signed with the appropriate signature keys.

Any word on how long it's going to take to root? I'm not looking for an "oh yeah, it'll be done at 2:38 PM on June 2" type thing, but want to know if we're looking at days or weeks or months. Updating to 2.1 was the dumbest thing I've ever done, it's almost impossible to text in landscape, and my fingers are too fat for portrait :)

My Hero was having problems, so I took it to Sprint. They warranty exchanged it. The replacement Hero was pre-loaded with 2.1. That means I have lost the root on my Hero 8-(
I will miss all the fun I was having. Too bad I am getting root back on my brand new Evo on Friday. Can't wait for the fun to begin... again. Oh, the Wife is getting the new Hero. She is just fine not having root.

:( I already upgraded mine... oh well... guess I'll have to wait for a solution.... shudda checked out the web first.....

Guys, I just registered to tell you this I saw at xda

sweet :D

You have no idea how excited this made me. I had stock 1.5 and was always to chicken to root and updated to the official 2.1. Thats when I started reading more into root I wish I would have rooted a long time ago.

Just don't tell my wife, she might take it the wrong way :p

I've also been wanting to root it and updated it to 2.1 before I found out what I could do with it :(
