Root **warning to all bonsai users**

Considering it was a beta and only so many downloaded it, it's not a big deal. Plus, they were also told to go back to 4.01, not that everyone listened (obviously). Would be a bigger deal if it was the stable release.

im sorry but i have to disagree. bricked phones due to a rom(!!!!) is obviously a very big concern, sure you can lie to sprint and commit insurance fraud but how many people really can afford to go buy a new phone off contract?

yes i understand its the users choice to install it but i know that if ACS released a rom to users that bricked phones our leader Rob would be in an uproar.. even if it was a beta

Quick, call the ROM police. Like the devs at ACS are so above board compared to the others. SO no, not "even". And it's an extremely small percentage of people that are using betas over the official releases. Even smaller for Bonsai over ACS because many don't feel like migrating to different websites and the hassle of their ordering process now. You run the risk of bricking just rooting and flashing. You take an extra risk running betas. Even the majority running the betas quickly reverted back to 4.01. And...to tell people here and create a panic? If you were even running a 4.1 beta, you're not posting about it here. You're hanging on the bg website, posting experiences, issues and problems there, not here. So posting it here? For who? For what? All the people that have no clue about the 4.1 beta and have come no where close to downloading it?

And people have bricked their phones all on their own because they get in over their head flashing. Would love to see one person on this forum feel guilty for bringing their bricked phone in for replacement. I know I wouldn't. Especially when their service has screwed me and cost me money due to their own ineptness. I have no qualms.

My 2 cents. Keep in mind that before my response above I read through the XDA thread to find out who/what/how....

I'm currently running Bonsai 4.0.0. My download was from one of the mirrors on XDA as I was one of those that couldn't get bonsaigeek to DL anything (until 2 days later).

As we all know, mirrors pop up everywhere and for everything from music to apps to video games to files to ROMs for the Epic. In theory, only those who donated to the developers who created Bonsai should have been able to download v4.1, however, who knows how many mirrors were or COULD have been created to share it by that point (could be one... could be 100). In theory, anyone could have been able to DL and install the ROM without being someone who donated.

I found the OP's post useful for that very reason. I personally visit this site far more often than I visit XDA for a multitude of reasons. I also visit XDA far more often than I visit Bonsaigeek. In all likelihood, I would have missed or not even seen the threads on BG or XDA about these issues. I would, however, seen the warnings issued here and would have known to Odin ASAP!

For any other user in my shoes, the thread here can be seen as useful and beneficial. :)

As far as insurance fraud and feeling guilty about pulling a quick one on Sprint. I personally wouldn't do it. I knew the risks to rooting (regardless of how likely they were to happen) prior to rooting my phone. If I bricked my phone based on my own carelessness or on the problem that a ROM created I would be paying out of pocket for a new phone and wouldn't dream of asking anyone to replace it (I'm one of those who doesn't believe in insurance on a phone).

Regardless, all my thoughts and opinions... to each their own. :)

people mirror that stuff? I guess that's one way of not dealing with their B4G site. I'll rescind my soapbox.

I will say I have zero problems exchanging my self bricked phone though. But the main reason is they milked the company to the tune of a few thousand dollars in erroneous charges that was going on for years before I took over managing the account. We got a fraction of it back in credits. Not to mention current issues where they screw up and don't give you value in return. But not everyone is in that situation.

You could also look at it from another perspective. They made promises about updates and such and failed to keep them. The phone was not able to be used as promised. Contract breached on their end, and the customer was doing what they were able to get the phone to function the way Sprint said it would when he/she bought it. So if I was the standard layperson, that would be my story, and I'd be sticking to it :)

And very diplomatic as usual sir kelmar.
