WARNING: to new Droid X purchasers who don't like dead pixels

Sometimes when i type a message the phone can not keep up with me. If i type.a sentence i am done and i can still see the words being imputed. Is anyone else having this issue is there a fix.

I never told anyone "not to buy a phone"...only to not update if they don't like dead pixels in their video footage.
 
I'm on my first Droid X...updated over a week ago, ran your "test" with the camcorder, used Dead Pixel Detect and no dead pixels.

Add me to the obscenely short list of "lucky" owners.
 
I don't think that list is very short. Lots and lots of us have applied the upgrade the day it became available (and since) and have not had any issues. I think it is amazing that those few who do have problems, keep getting more phones with the same problems.

You're not on the short list. There are a lot of us who doesn't have pixel problems after the update. You just don't hear from them because usually only people with problems post on forums. I mean no offense to benjiedude. His problems are legitimate. But that doesn't mean what happened to him will happen to every one else. Imho, I think the update is worth it. I recommend people should update and see what happens. If you get a dead pixel, you can always get a new one.

I don't think its amazing at all.
It stinks for the time being.
Its not like anyone is trying to have continuous bad luck.
Sometimes, bad luck just happens, and it has to happen in one's world maybe with 4 different televisions, or other random products such as cellphones for example, only then will one be able to relate.
Hardware AND Software will both have device issues no matter what phone you look at.
The 604 update had great intentions, bringing many fixes, tweaks...
But like with ANY software update or upgrade, there is always a chance for new problems/issues to arise.
There is no guarantee that a particular bug/issue will affect/occur on all phones.
Evetually, the cause of the bug will be discovered and a patch/update will be pushed out to all users... even those that don't experience the bug... The patch is released regardless if you have the issue, its there... to prevent it from happening to you in the future.
The issue/bug IS indeed real.
If anyone has an X updated to 604 with no issues, my hat is off (sincerely) to you.
Take note though, just because you aren't seeing the issue now, doesn't mean it can't still arise with your phone.
A bug is like a cold, anyone can catch it. Can...
some will, some wont.
No one here knows why yet or can thoroughly prove why some X's after the 604 update don't see this pixel issue.
There may be more than meets the eye here.
Hopefully FROYO will eliminate this bug entirely.

For those that have this issue, stay positive.
For those that don't have this issue, stay positive and considerate as well.

Chronicling the lives of children is something much more valuable & important to those with children of their own. A brand new phone shouldn't do this.
An actual camcorder is not a prerequisite.
Even camcorders have problems, Faulty CCDs for example can cause the same issue in any camera or camcorder, in any device...
YOU shouldn't have to look at dead/ hot pixels during video playback.
Or let alone have keyboard lag worse than a blackberry storm. Very scary.
My old beat up storm shoots and plays back video withOUT hot/dead pixels.

Motorola will get to the bottom of it, and will fix the problem one way or the other.

Yes the bug is real. It's obvious that some people are having problems. However, making a blanket statement saying anyone who updates will get dead pixels is false. Not everyone is. In fact, there are a lot of us who aren't having any problems. Personally, I think the chances are good that you won't encounter any pixel issues.

I feel your frustration, but the above is not necessary. Neither Motorola nor VZ is intentionally trying to get anyone into a faulty X, let alone issues after an OTA.
I couldn't be happier with Verizon's customer care & coverage.
Motorola is in a league of their own when it comes to putting out Android devices.

I don't think anybody can think its happening to every X that updates to 604.
The OP's original intention in first post, was to for one do some venting, clearly...
Secondly, to Inform of his/her situation(s) experience with the X(s).
That's mainly about it.
The OP has a right to express his/her opinion and concern or post a warning to others, constructively & respectfully.
Kind of what forums are all about.
 
I'm not sure what I said that evoked that rant. I didn't say it wouldn't be frustrating nor that it was in somebody's imagination. But I stand by my statement that it is amazing that a person would get several (not just two) phones with the same issue. Let's say there has been 300,000 Droid X's sold to date. Then let's assume 100% of users have applied the update. I would say it is a safe bet no more than 5,000 phones have developed this issue. Then I would also say it is a safe bet that more than 4,500 of those have been fixed with the first replacement. So, percentage wise, it would be pretty amazing to get several phones with the exact same issue.

Remember, it's only the ones with real issues that make it a point to find a forum and create a new thread regarding an issue with their product. With so few threads dedicated to this issue, I would have to say it is NOT widespread and like others have said, the thread title may be a little misleading.

Regardless of all that, I hope the op gets a good replacement and has a trouble free phone.

No rant was made. :) Nor was my lengthy post entirely directed toward a single member.
I saw originally and understood when you mentioned amazing.
I simply expressed my opinion thinking its a real stinker anytime someone waits and waits for a device to come out, only to be let down by some bad luck.
The root of why only some X's are having problems after 604 is installed, could be one internal part like a bad batch of ccd's from an external parts manufacturer plant. The OTA could have exposed the faulty sensors, should that be the case.
There's absolutely no telling right now, nor Actual number of devices affected.
Trying to come up with realistic percentages at this point or maybe ever is not possible.
Identifying the bug and fixing the issue is more possible.
I'm sure Motorola is well aware of the issue by now; could be stealthly working on a quick fix or testing to see if issue remains with upgrade/install to froyo or if there is something else possibly hardware at fault...( hardware more unlikely but not an impossibility)
Guaranteed it will be resolved sooner or later, one way or the other.

I wish nothing but the best to the OP.
 
UPDATE: Well, even though I've spoken to VZW and Motorola so many times and had them confirm to me that an update should need approval by the user before downloading, I've found that the phone will just do it by itself if you plug it in overnight. My 3rd Droid X updated by itself last night. I will clarify that before this unapproved update I had no colored pixels, only an "actual" dead pixel embedded in the LCD. After the unapproved update last night 8/1, my phone has a green pixel that was not there before that does show up in camcorder footage. 3 Droid X's, 1 approved update/2 unapproved updates...that's THREE pixel bugs that have appeared. This bug is real.

To all of those who are hijacking the thread: Telling people that the OP(me) is not smart, incorrect or what have you is ignorance at it's best. I have truly posted this thread as help to those who might feel the same as me. The title is not misleading as I have explained myself thoroughly in saying what my issue is. If people want to update and take the chance of having the bug effect their phone then that's their prerogative. I never once have told people to return their phones or that they need to stay away from a Droid X. Get over yourselves and let the thread be so it can prevent people from making a mistake they might not want to.
 
I don't have this bug and I feel left out. Hopefully, I'll experience this bug before they fix it, because then I can pretend like they're not doing anything about it until I post on their message board personally. Then, I can pretend like they're "Uh-oh! Foolish Mortal is on our message boards shaming us! OMG! Look what he said about Verizon! It's time to stop playing golf 7 days a week and go fix the problem, before he starts posting elsewhere!" Then, when the fix comes out I can say to myself, "I am so important! ME! Me me me me! Yes!".

This always happens to me. Why can't I be the one who wastes other people's time exchanging stuff and posting YEEEAAAAARRRRGGGG! to multiple message boards to express my rage? I could tie people up on the phones for hours, because it would be all about me! I would be that important! It just isn't fair. I want to spend hours exchanging phones and berating people too! Just think, I could hoard multiple phones, pretending like exchanging hardware is the solution to a software issue, keeping them out of the hands of people who don't mind having one until a software fix comes out to the software issue. I am more important than them, and I want them to know it.

I could keep at least one person employed in this terrible economy taking perfectly good phones, inspecting them, repackaging them, and putting them in the refurb pipeline for a few weeks, instead of in people's hands.

Man oh man, I just have the worst luck.

Maybe those who waste even more time writing sarcastic insults will continue to be the kind of people who take out all frustrations with their penile size insecurities by posting in forums because they're so much more "right" in this world...and God knows they can't speak like that to people face to face in real life. :cool:

Actually, I do speak that way to people in real life. The sarcastic smile gets lost in the translation on message boards, though.

I guess I don't see the point in returning 3 phones when you know it's a software issue that will get fixed at some point.

It is misleading because the pixel is not dead. Period!

And while you have not told anyone to return the phone you have done it, what, four times now. Try leading by example.

The pixel is so friggen small that if you aren't looking for it you probably wouldn't even notice it. Live with it until it's fixed and quit wasting everyone else s time and resources by replacing it over and over.

I mean seriously if you can't watch your kids growing up in your moves without focusing on that little tiny pixel instead of them I have to ask why even bother taking a picture. Are you looking for imperfections in the camera or enjoying your kids? If you can't look at a movie of your kids with out getting upset about a single pixel I'd hate to be your kid.

Thanks for the warning now move on with your life.

Now excuse me I have to go start a tread that says if you read this thread it will kill your camera like it did mine. :-) I just hope I don't read this tread after after i get my replacement.
