Help Water Damage

My 5 year old boy dropped my wifes, S2 in the toilet. Not sure how long it was in the water before she found it. I disassembled the phone, removed the motherboard, cleaned all the circuits, and let dry over night. Put the phone back together, however the phone does not come on. Is it Dead? When trying to power on, while holding the power button a blue light will flash once, but nothing else happens. I have also tried a different battery, still the same. Anything else i can try, before i buy her a replacement?

Thanks in Advance.

That is why I have phone insurance. Water and electronics don't mix, especially if it was on when it went for a swim.

with battery out put it into a bag of rice and leave it for a week then try again. just because it looks dry doesn't mean it is. good luck.

If you've already tried to fire it back up before you put it in rice, I'm almost positive that you've lost any chance at salvaging the phone.

You NEVER try to turn on any electronic after it's been drenched, you will short out everything on the board. You can try to put it in rice, but I would say all hope has been lost for it.

You can always try a different battery too. That worked for me one time. I had to get a new battery to get everything working again.

Try the rice and after a week try to power it up again. If it works good, if not you are where you started.

Conisider it a good time to upgrade you phone. If you need it now then go ahead and replace it. But put it in the rice anyway. If it does come back to life you can use it as a WiFi only phone connected to google voice (GrooVe IP Lite app) account of your choice. The app works very well and the phone behaves as it would if you were making a cellular call.

Thanks for the suggestions. I myself know not to power the device on after being drenched. However the Wife may have tried to, not sure. When she called me at work, i told her to place it in rice and dont touch. But you know women. I guess i will shell out another 300 for a replacement.

Regarding the aftermarket insurance, are you referring the insurance from Boost for extra $5.00 month. If so that is what we have, and when i tried to file the claim, it was rejected. Stated Water Damage was not covered. Is that not true?

I provided the link to the insurance from protect your bubble, and not the one from Boost.

Thanks! I overlooked that in your previous post. Thought it was an advertisment. :) That is worth the extra 3 dollars to get protect your bubble and drop Boost $5 Ins. Just ordered it for my phone and tablet. :)

Unfreacking believable. After debating on buying a replacement, i decided to give fixing the phone one more shoot. This is what i done.

1. disassembled phone.
2. removed anything removable from motherboard.
3. soaked motherboard in 99% Isopropyl Alcohol overnight.
4. placed soaked motherboard on my heat plate from my T-862++ Relow Station.
5. after board was dried, i covered the chips and circuits with Non-Spill Soldering Flux.
6. Put the board/chip under the IR-Heat Gun of my relow station for 55seconds at temp of 250.
7. removed flux from board with alcohol, then dried board.
8. Put the phone back together, and booted right up.

This phone was in the toilet water for no less than 5 minutes, and wife had attempted to turn on almost as soon as she removed from water. I had almost given up on this phone. I know most people dont have a relow station. I only have one for repairing xbox360 rrod and some laptop gpu's. But you can achieve the same effect using a cheap walmart heatgun. I hope this helps anyone who has a dead phone.
