Help water + verizon droid = phone freakout?

I accidentally spilled water on my phone but I was able to clean most of it off. Now my phone only works when plugged into the wall and even then it keeps shutting off, then coming back on, and says it "checking the sim card". Is there anyway I can fix it, or do I have to take it in to the Verizon store?

Remove the cover, battery and sdcard and let it set for a couple of days ... to complete dry ...

Try the sdcard in a portable reader ...

If these dont work ... then back to verizon .. but water damage is not normally covered ...
