Root We Need Testers!

I saw a method involving flashing a kernel in download mode this morning, but I am not able to find it again. Has anybody been successful with this?

and that guy was trying to get people to flash a kernel made for a different phone if you read the threads. please stop spreading this before someone bricks

it was for teh epic 4g touch, a samsung exynos based sprint phone. you guys have a qualcomm based samsung device the hardware is completely different (example the e4gt is a dual core, yalls is single core msm8655)

i don't know if any of you know this, but the samsung galaxy reverb comes stock with odin3, i found this out within the last hour just messing around with my phone and if you press the power button, the volume down button, and the home button simultaneously during boot, it opens odin3, i hope this helps in our what seams to be infinite search for a root to this phone!

I seriously hope the fact that this phone's on sale for $99 right now brings in more help to get root. This is about to be a popular phone :P

Hell Yeah!!! Finally, More people with my phone!!! Its so great, but now i'm so pissed at myself for not waiting to buy it...just had to have it haha, oh yeah, and now vm has the sgs2, what's up with that?! they are really stepping it up!!!

The "problem" (if you can call it that) is that this phone is not the usual (for VM) Sprint hand-me-down, so it doesn't come with user/developer history from previous carrier(s).

If root is your most important feature, there are other good phones with developer support already. The Evo V is the same price as last week's Reverb at 199, and it has a bigger screen. Something to think about, at least.

That being said, how can the Reverb not be a popular phone at 99?

Yeah, I do kind of think that it would be helpful if VM had not been the only brand carrying the phone, but it was kind of cool that they finally got into the galaxy line while introducing a completely new phone!

I should have this device in the next week or so, and i'm willing to beta test if we have a Custom Recovery. (I don't have a computer, so no way to get out of a soft-brick). This may be my first post but i've had plenty of experience with custom rom's and am far from a noob

At the moment, I don't think that is possible. It looks like we need to have a deodexed rom, and even if it doesn't need a deodexed rom I still wouldn't recommend trying that until we have cwm working so that you can make a nandroid backup.

How to get Google Now on ICS - YouTube this kind of works...the google now definitely does, but you have to use root browser lite and go in to the system/app folder and rename googlequicksearchbox.apk to googlequicksearchbox.apk1 before you install the velvet-theos0o-5.apk, but you do not have to make any of the apk's system apps, i did and it made the voice search not work, i am going to remove it as a system app right now actually
