Web Browsing-Connection Speed versus Browser

Well, I'm pretty much been sticking with the stock browser.

Now, the more and more I read about the different browsers for example Chrome is claiming to be "Faster" for a browsing experience.

Others like xscope claim the same.

So really what I'm looking for her is what are the opinions out there:
*Connection Speed Versus Browser

My thoughts, obviously the connection is the driving force, No Browser will compensate for a slow connection (unless it was a very small difference)

Given the same connection speed, I guess a browser w/ less overhead, may be able to change pages slightly faster, due to less overhead, etc. Plus they may cache more of the data to make going back, etc. a faster experience.

Just looking for some thoughts....
Thanks...Jeff

I would suggest you try Opera Mini. It's loaded everything faster than any other browser I've tried, including stock.

The browsers available on market forward your requested page to their own servers and compress (mostly in HTML5) before sending back to you. In this way it really does increase speed.
Opera is fast but a bit grainy.
Dolphin is a Tad slower but prettier and has gesture responses.
Skyfire is slower (still faster than stock) and plays videos (converts from flash to mp4 or something) and has a built-in Facebook app.

Thanks...Makes sense..

Actually though, I was wondering if there was anyway to quantify to the difference, know of a page loading test or something like that. It's the Engineer in me, gotta nail a number to everything.

Obviously, any page test would vary depending on the connection speed, but you could take an average for like 10 loads or something like that?

Any ideas on that?

Just thinkin' outloud. I like Dolphin, but only because of the nice features. XScope (1 older version) plays pages w/ flash video (although will not play "Flash Pages"), only the videos on like funnyordie or something.

Anyway, was just thinking I could quantify the list of browsers available.

Ideas? Maybe I'll make it a project for myself to get all the data and post, but I need to find a good test page, mix of text/graphics/etc. Then I can run the data..

Thanks...Jeff

a simple test is what i did.

load a page with mostly text (like google search) one with pics (like deviant art) and one with vids (you tube video)

time each load (five times) with a stop watch.

repeat with other browsers ad nausium.

Just D/L MASQED CRUSADER.Seems to have sped things up quite a bit. Will get the donate version once the free trial expires.
THX for the tip,RunicMourning!

That is exactly what I had in mind. Like you said 5-10 times each. Try to get a good idea.

The following comments, I've seen things like that for the PC, been a little scared to try as they modify you DNS type settings, claim to speed up, I'm glad to have some feedback from some? Have you every used those techniques?

I'm going to find some good test pages, and post results. Gimmi a week or so.

PS: CM7 coming flashing today, I hope. I forgot I have some morning things to do,but I'm going for it when I get home......Jeff

To be quite honest,I'm what you would call 'TECHNOLOGICALLY IMPAIRED'.
With this phone being so inexpensive & brickproof,I'm willing to try anything to improve performance, nothing to lose, might as well 'Go For It'.
Its been a fantastic instrument for me to learn a little something in the TECH WORLD.

I've used the MASQED CRUSADER app for approx. 2HRS now, tried out everything from E-MAIL,web browsing,d/l apps,etc....Even the usually laggy ANDROID MARKET is a LOT more responsive.A Top Ten Favorite App in my inventory already.

BTW,I'm primarily using the stock browser too, as you are.Just wish it had SKYFIRE'S video capabilities & DOLPHIN'S clearing of Cache, browsing history on Exit option. From my experience, it seems to be the quickest browser available.

I feel the same way as Toke said, this phone is basically unbrickable so why not give that stuff a try. I'll give it a go.

I am going to find a text, picture, and video page to test with and test each several times. And then maybe put that on and repeat. I like to quantify the results, just that "Feeling" is one thing, but knowing that it was faster in 10 of 10 times, you'll know your doing the right thing.

I want to flash CM7 today, but then I'll do this project. Just pick the top 3-4 and test..

OK, thanks for the info...I will give that a try.

Take care...gotta run....jeff

BTW: IF YOU DO BRICK, my trick. take out the battery, have the dload folder(back to stock flash) on the SD. have the battery laying in position to go in (phone upside down), press the vol up, end, power, THEN let the battery drop in.

That way the instant it gets power it goes right into reinstall mode. I've bricked it like crazy and this works every single time.....

So, take care. Off to work for now...early day...Jeff

you just f'd you fone up not bricked it lol. Trust me when its bricked it gets more complicated.

I think the way Huawei and prolly others has this fone setup to restore itself is great. The old moto's sure wasnt so forgiving lol.

OH, I totally agree with what your saying, But with the Huawei, I can't even dream of a situation, where that wouldn't get it back. Your right, a true "BRICK" is a different story, if the firmware was in a true code loop or something, but to get these phones into that situation would really take some deep digging into it.

I guess I should have made that more clear, but tons of people here, who refer to what they have done is "Brick" their phone, is easily solved that way, that's really all I was getting across.

Thanks.....Jeff
