Help weird charging issue

G19

Android Enthusiast
I charge my phone every night. Every morning I wake up and my phone is at 99%. What happens is my phone charges to 100% then decides it won't use the ac power source through the cord and runs on battery. So by the time I wake up it's at 99%. The battery statistics don't start until I physically unplug the phone even though the battery is being used to power the phone once charging has completed.

Anyone else notice this or have this problem?

fixed the post

When I plug my phone in that night it charges to 100 percent it stops charging and will just it stops charging and will just run off of battery power instead of ac power

Hmm.. could be a connection problem. Does it disconnect and connect intermittently when you wiggle the charger around?

I haven't noticed this, but I don't look at my battery percentages. This phone does pull a lot of amperage (to the point that my car charger that I used with the Triumph and HD2 can't keep up with the drain.) My guess is that the current draw, combined with the phone switching to trickle charging when the battery is close to full, is keeping it from reaching 100%. I bet if you charged it with the phone turned off it would hit 100, but you would never know because booting it would drop back to 99 or less.

Has anyone checked this on their phone? I want to know if mine has something wrong so I can easily exchange/return it within the 30 day window.

I have noticed this on mine as well. I heard somewhere(possibly on this forum) that it does that to prevent overcharging which lowers the life of the battery. Can anyone who knows for sure shed some light on the issue?

I believe it was Leslie Anne who mentioned than when I asked about a similar thing. it apparently does that to come from over charging and shortening the battery life so if it gets to 100 and is sitting there still on charge for awhile (i.e. overnight) it starts running off some of the charge.

You don't have to worry about this. It's just the way that your device protects from overcharging. Charge fully, discharge a bit of power.
My theory is that the phone might communicate with the charger to slow the output when it's nearing full charge also. That's why it says 99% for so long. The reason I say this is that the charger gets warm when charging a low battery, but it feels cooler near the end of the charge cycle. Just a theory though

I have, my car charger barely keeps it at the same % much less charges it lol

^ I'd be more worried about this. My charger in my car actually charges my battery, and I'm streaming xiialive audio (can stream winamp streams yey!) and keeping the screen on while using gps. My typical drive during the weekends to my parents is about 1 hour and charges my battery while doing this all in the car by about 15%.

My battery also charges from 5% to 100% in 4 hours when left alone.

My battery also last at least 16 hours and has about 30% by the time i charge it again. ( I would say I make 20 mins of phone calls, 30 mins of browsing and 1 our of gaming on it daily).

This is on the stock battery and with very limited 4g on time. I usually have wifi and bluetooh off too. I also don't have any battery managers installed.

I do have to say I have strong 3g signal here in chicago. i've noticed in bad signal spots inside buildings battery drain is tremendous.

This is dependent on the charger you use.

Some cigarette lighter chargers put out proper mah ratings, others don't.

My old charger used to have issues... it would charge to a max of about 70% on the Triumph, and would only maintain a charge when using it.

The one I got to replace it will not only charge to 100%, it will also charge while in use.

I cracked open the old one to see what was inside and it was a butchering of resistors that were too large. This was probably due to being made for older phones that only need a low rating, like 200-300mah. These new phones run much higher, in the area of 850mah.

Using the Battery Stats app you can actually see the mah the phone uses when on, and it can easily use 200-300 for normal use, more if you are using it as a GPS or other activities.

So, TL;DR moral of the story - Get a current/new car charger, or just get a small inverter and use a wall charger in your car (many new inverters also include USB ports for charging).
