Help Weird grey text box over my contact list

Hi there; I just got my Incredible and so far mostly good, except a new problem today that I can't figure out:

I was searching my contact list for a name and a large grey box appeared over the keyboard. As I keyed letters, they appeared in the grey box, but after searching the box didn't go away.

Now every time I open my contact list, that box is there, hovering over the list. It won't go away!

What did I do and how can I make this go away?

Are you referring to predictive text? As you type, it will try to guess the word you are typing and give you several choices so you can just type typ for typical, and then tap "Typical" in the box rather than typing out all the letters.

No, it's not that at all. It's something I've never seen before. Just hovers there in the foreground now while I'm looking at my list. It started while I was typing, but now just hangs there. If I bring up the search/type box, it disappears while I type but otherwise it's just there.

Welcome to the phone and the forum. Both are fantastic! I tried to reproduce your problem without any luck. If someone doesn't come to your aid, I'd suggest a battery pull to reboot the phone... that will normally correct the little problems with the phone. If your problem continues.. I'd contact VZ. Hopefully someone will come to your aid with experience with your problem. In any event... welcome aboard.

I don't know what that box is but it will go away when you hold the back (or delete key) for about three seconds. It seems to be a note box. Maybe someone knows. I had the same problem till I looooong pressed that key out of frustration.

Thanks for the responses and the welcome. It happens when I hit "contacts", then press and hold menu to bring up the keyboard. Just shutting down the phone and turning on again did the trick. Weird, huh? Anyway , thanks again; I love all the tips on this site !
