Root Weird Problem with S-Off

robla1000

Lurker
Hi there,

I'm new here, but saw that there is lots of help offered. Hope someone can help me...

Desire GSM Vodaphone Stock Hboot 0.93.0001 Bravo PVT3 S-on

I'm on OSX, and rooted it with Unrevoked. It didn't go smoothly, had to do this two times, but now I have Superuser and ClockworkMod Recovery 2.5.0.7.

Made a Nand Backup.

Since I don't know which Rom to flash, I want to S-off my phone. So downloaded Alpharev 1.8, burned it to CD, restarted etc.

After connecting (USB debugging on etc) it says:

Waiting for device: found
Identifying your phone:
cat: can't open '/tmp/cmdline': No such file or directory (3 times repeated)
/home/tc/alpharev.sh: line 117: [: ==: unary operator exspected (8 times)
Device Model:
CID:
MID:
HBOOT version:
Screen Type:

Your phone was not recognised or is unsupported at this time.
If you are 100% sure...

Powering off in 60 sec

So it doesn't recognise my phone and I powered off (don't wanna take any risk).
What is happening here?

I wouldn't recommend S-Off'ing just for the sake of it, I'd think about why you want to do it and what you want from it. Start trying a few ROMs of Sense, AOSP and MIUI flavours to see what you like first - take a Nandroid as you go and you can get back to the flavour you like.

Also recommend you dl Titanium backup (even better to pay for pro version, worth it) and back up your apps, and something like My Back-up for stuff like SMS, MMS etc before doing anything else. And take a copy of complete SD card onto your computer just in case.

Sorry - I can't really help with the problem you encountered with AlphaRev though, did you try asking for help on the AlphaRev IRC channel when it appeared? If you had USB debugging on did you connect phone in charge only mode?

@saltire
Thanks for your tips. Did most of them :)

@Rastaman
Thanks... Did that also... no go. Might try it on another pc.
Work under osx which is better with USB, they say.
Diskdrive did recognise the SD-card anyway.

When you boot to hboot, (power and vol down) then plug in your usb, it should change to hboot usb, if not it could be a driver issue. Is it the same pc you rooted with?

Seems there's something rotten with my USB of regular pc.
On old win xp laptop it recognised my phone.

Should do some error checking for regular pc....
Any prog recommended?

But virtual box may bypass the fisherprice...*Cough* I mean Mac Operating system and plug directly into the hardware using its own software. If the issue is Mac software related you would not be able to detect it.

You can't reverse S-off without:

1) Flashing the downgrader.img from alpharev

and

2) Running the RUU to return it stock

Thanks SUroot,

Guess you're right with your remarks, but I removed all USB devices, plugged them in different ports, restarted and the problem was gone. Strange, but who cares.

Do you mean both? So firsat downgrader and then RUU?
