Welcome to the new AndroidForums (Round 2)

I think I brought this up in V1 and if it was acknoledged, then IBT can slap me with a trout. :D

Anyway, forum messages don't seem to be displayed in the app anywhere that I can see. At least not prominenly enough for what they are used for.

I'm talking about the ones you use to announce forum downtime or the discontinuation of TT.

There is no indication who sent the first alert listed in the attached screenshot. It reads like it was sent from a person.

That was me. I typed a response to you regarding a post you reported. I was unaware it didn't identify who it came from. Even so, there should have been enough context to figure out what it was from as it mentions it was from a report and which post was reported.

Intermittent issue, mobile isn't sizing correctly. It does this about half the time when I open the site, the bottom covers the buttons?

Just a follow-up as well, is there going to be a 'new post' vs 'recent' option? I lost track if it's already been addressed.

Building on this post, from another thread:

It's a moot point now but the main reasons I use TT are:
[...]
  • It shows just the latest posts (only new ones, not what I've already read...I did mention this in the other thread of what needs to be fixed)
  • Stupid simple layout; just new posts, that's all I want.
At the moment, I am using this search to achieve the desired effect:

http://androidforums.com/find-new/posts?watched=1

However, this search does not recognise device channels as favourited forums. Therefore I would suggest either:

A) Allow the hiding of read threads on the homepage. Combined with the setting to show threads from favourite forums/channels only, this would be the most efficient way for a member to keep up to date with their favourite sections.

B) Make it so that channels are recognised as favourited forums for the purposes of searches, so that the URL I mentioned works. (I suspect this option would both be more difficult to implement, and difficult for members to find. So option A seems preferable).

On mobile Chrome, when I press on my avatar, alerts icon or messages icon (upper right corner of most every screen), they don't open unless I press those 3 icons twice in a row. The search button directly next to them works on the first press however.

I cannot recreate this. It works well for me. Can anyone else test on their device please?

B5 Home Page Center Panel Dropdown

I had the dropdown in the Home Page Center Panel set to ...
Most Recent / Favorites
I logged off and logged on
When I returned to the home page it was set to ...
Most Recent / All
It ought to remember the setting.

B6 Three Bars in Heading

I had the three bars in the heading set to hide the left panel.
I logged off and logged on
When I returned to any page the left panel was displayed.
It ought to remember the setting.

Agreed, and this was a ticket that was completed and was working earlier. Will re-open.

Another minor request for formattiong on the pagination. It can be hard to tell what current page you are on. Just turning the page number green with a little green bottom line is subtle enough that sometimes I miss it.

Possibly making the current page number BOLD as well would make it stand out enough?

Nice, agreed, submitting.

Hehe, with a *large* trout? Sometimes I add app problems to my SP tickets, sometimes not. I might add this, checking with Rob. Either way thanks, i'll get it submitted SOMEWHERE.

1. Will submit, thanks!
2. I guess I don't understand. Doesn't the Recent just simply include all new posts?

I guess I was being obscure ... I suggest that it start with the blue word Moderator.

I am not sure I'm worried about if it mentioned a moderator closes the report. It's implied?

But doesn't what they get on the home page when they see recent of favorites, INCLUDE all unread with the blue dots? Why is this needed at all?

That said, we did B - SO that the home page recent/favorites would work with devices. Is it only working there, you mean?

Pagination on top of webpage is not formatted correctly, some pages are too narrow. Bottom of page is normal.

You're right, the current homepage does already show all unread threads.

But, to me, continuing to list posts that I have read is just cluttering up the experience. I treat the 'unread posts' list like a to-do list, or my email inbox. If I've read it, I want it out of the way so I can feel like I'm progressing through things. I don't want to have to hit the home page, then go to page 2 or 3 of the threads listed there to find something to read.

So, you're right that this change would not be adding functionality, but I would argue that it would improve the site's usability.

Yes, see my screenshot example. The left pane is the homepage, the right is a search using the URL I mentioned above. No results from channels show up in the latter.

Yes, it does BUT it also continues to show what's already been read. No need to see what I've already seen :p
The 'new posts' (that I'm using an old link for) simply shows the actual new posts, not previously read ones too.

But, that's just how the two of you use it. I use it to get to posts I'm interested in, for example, repeatadly. It might be because I'm an admin, maintaining sticky posts like this one, and I need to keep going back but, surely I'm not alone.

If we could determine what is more desired by the community, it would be helpful for this debate:

- Use it for new threads only, like you said, an unread inbox, or
- Use it to show all threads your interested in, read or not, letting unread rise to the top.

I like the second, you like the first, hmm.

Ok, and as for the second part - is that section/url something findable on the site, the new theme, or a URL being passed around and no longer a part of this theme?

I am not sure I'm worried about if it mentioned a moderator closes the report. It's implied?

Not earth shattering. I knew what it meant. On the other hand I have been hanging around here for 6 years.

My suggestion was to aid new people because it looks like an error.

When it first appeared there was a yellow star at the end. It disappeared.

So you're thinking maybe instead of "your recent report was closed" it could say something like "A moderator has resolved your recent report" ? with maybe moderator in blue?

Can you add me to the list of people who use it that way?

Can't we have a button for unread posts, and one for recent posts... we certainly used to manage that way.

SO in the dropdown "trending/recent/new topics" and "all/favorites" that we currently have - which is being worked on to have the chosen setting remembed, you are suggesting a "unread" in the left dropdown.

Apologize if this was suggested before, I'm ... you know, this all is a lot to keep track of, and there's a lot more I'm doing than managing this project, but - that's brilliant and I like it. I will add a ticket for this.

Like many I tended to use the new posts list in the old forum a lot (which, for clarity, was new posts rathe than new threads). I sometimes find the current "recent" list useful when I want to return to something I've looked at recently, but most of the time would find the old way, where it just showed threads that had new/unread posts, more useful/efficient.

But why does it have to be either/or? The list can currently be chosen to be "most recent", "trending" or "new topics", so why not add "new posts" or "unread" as a fourth option? Then people can use whichever they prefer, and switch between them as they want.

(BTW I've never once used "new topics", because I also want to see older threads that contain new posts. And I've never even thought about using "trending". So for me personally a choice between "most recent" and "new posts" would be enough).

Edit: and it looks like I was ninja'd by Phases while I was typing that!

Good point, new posts would include new topics. But, let's do this for now (add instead of replace) because with my luck then people who use new topics would chime in.

I too have never had an interest in trending, but I think the appeal / market for that one is new visitors.

Edit: Yes marking things read is in the OP as something we're trying to sort. Suggestions on implementation welcome!

So you're thinking maybe instead of "your recent report was closed" it could say something like "A moderator has resolved your recent report" ? with maybe moderator in blue?

Yes it could. In the listing that I posted in the original suggestion they all begin with an identifying source of the comment ... except for the first one. Like I said ... not earth shattering.
