Root well it happened to me today! BRICKED

i dont think it was the voltages set at boot either. i reflashed the kernel successfully which should have reset the voltages. im scared to keep this phone because i dont know what caused this whole problem. im concerned it could happen again at any time.

i also wonder of those who had bricked devices how many took the time to set back to stock and try to reboot.

You could act like scotty and send back the replacement. VZW has never gotten much praise for the quality of it's refirbs.

dammit beat me to the punch,again! i was just gonna say that. i used my refurb for 4 days,then went back to my original on the last day,and ended up sending the refurb back.

i did call them and explain that it had started workin again,what did they want me to do... and they said it was fine to send back the refurb.


my gut feeling says if you were looping in recovery and into the OS repeatedly that you were experienceing the emmc failure,and despite the fact that its somehow working,its prolly a matter of time before it happens again.

but who knows,lol... you may keep it and it be fine forever while the refurb craps out in a week.

its a tough choice. potential brick or crappy refurb... i feel for you man,ive been there


so just to satisfy my own curiousity... you put the phone in fastboot,started the installer,followed the prompts,the installer put the phone in ruu mode,and went thru its whole speal of flashing? im glad you did it that way,its good info to have that apparently "RUU mode" is not affected by the failing/failed emmc

the fist thing most folks did was try and flash an RUU in hboot,and that didnt fix anything. the phone then just booted between the stock recovery or stock boot

its possible that you had a different issue than the failed emmc,or maybe it failed,and then came back to life? maybe its not the emmc at all? who knows,lol... its possible that runing the RUU somehow fixed something that running a PG05IMG didnt,but i kind of doubt it.

yep thats what happened. also good to know is you can do this even with a dead battery. once in fastboot it runs off the computer. in fact my battery wasnt even in the phone lol.

i think i will send this phone back. i dont want to take the chance of it happening again. its a painful process, calling cs going back to stock sending this the current phone back and rerooting

but of those that flashed the ruu how many used a exe vs a .zip.
i also question, and i wish i had tried, what would have happened if i tried flashing a .zip after reverting to the old hboot. perhaps that was an issue

cool,thats really good info,lol. i was under the impression that the phone would not charge in hboot or fastboot,let alone run without the battery
at least this time you can root with revolutionary

also,i forgot to ask... what did you end up doing to get your fastboot drivers working?

i just kept plugging and unplugging my phone. finally it recognized it lol.

Long shot here but perhaps something on your root say maybe "proc/emmc" was corrupted, the ruu exe would rewrite it and restore back to a like new condition. I refuse to believe this was truly hardware failure as it was fixable with going back to a completely clean slate

keyword being this particular case... all the other bricks had PG05IMG file flashed wich would have done the same thing as the .exe file as far as overwriting something that went bad.

like i said above... it could be this was not the same emmc failure, or could be an amazing conicidence that it went bad and came back after the flash

it would be nice to know if any of the other bricks were tried to fix with a .exe vs a PG05IMG. ibricks phone was definately still bricked after he flashed his back to stock.

heck,it could even be something with mr2 vs mr1. all the other bricks had either shipping firmware or m21 flashed,where you used mr2 and a .exe. another variable,lol

I really have no clue. I just remembered seeing emmc somewhere before so I found in on my phone. I would think that it wouldn't take many things to get effed up on your root to get you a brick. After all when flashing a rom there are plenty of things on the actual root of the phone that aren't touched. I was under the impression that the bricking before may have been due to the radio being used (I could be wrong) but if that were the case I doubt anyone still active here is running on radios that were leaked over 2 months ago.
