Root Well, lets get the ball rolling

You have to install it.. here's a guide I wrote.
<snip>
Installing LGNPST
<snip>
7. Copy VM697.DLL and the .tot file from the root zip to C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST\Model

Is the filename correct for that dll? I have VM696.dll, not VM697.dll.

So I flashed my phone, but once it exited download mode and rebooted it came back up as I left it, all apps intact. Thats not right is it? but LGNPST said it was complete after about 15min.

so I tried to push SU using these commands:

Code:
C:\adb\adb.exe shell
$ adb push su /data/local/tmp/su
adb: permission denied

so that didn't work. I'm going to bed. can anyone give me some advice?

Yay. I got root access. After wrestling with trying to get the msl for a couple days, the rest was a cake walk. Though, the guide on androidpolice won't work by itself. You definitely need post #516 and #525 from this page added in there.

As far as the flashing process, I do have one concern. When you click the big button in LGNPST.exe to start the flashing, it kicked my phone back to the "downloading mode" screen. As I found out while trying for hours on end to get the MSL, our phones are not being charged while in downloading mode, even though they are connected via USB. So I am wondering 1) is it possible for the battery to die during this flashing and 2) is there any chance that it will brick the phone if that happens?

To be safe I'd make sure battery is 100% charged before beginning. It only takes about 15 minutes for the flash process but better safe than sorry. If it looses power for whatever reason during the flash you'll more than likely have a brick

The phone does draw power from the usb connection while in download mode because I've had my phone connected in download mode without a battery. I still suggest 100% charge before you begin.

1. Yes, I'm fairly certain it is possible. You should always begin this sort of flashing process with a mostly charged, if not fully charged device.

2. Yes, that is very likely.

Is there any 'cleanup' that needs to be done afterwards? I'm not sure what all the diag mode is used for, but this guide ends with you still having it enabled.

I copy and paste the adb code like how it says on Android police, I put su and the other files you need to push in drive c/system/owners and dropped it in there because in Cmd it said c/system/owners so it must mean it's reading from there.....hope this makes sense :p,

Your installation left out the theme file for some reason. I'll add it as an attachment, download the zip, extract the skin.dll file, and copy it to C:\LG Electronics\LGNPST. There will be a bunch of folders and some other .dll files in there, just drop it in. It should start up for you after that ;)

Thanks for poating that, idk why it did that but it was fusterating, big luckily I know I have root :) thanks man

adb shell push commands are ran from your pc

you did adb shell first, which put you on your phone

I have a rooted ELITE!!!! I want to THANK EVERYONE WHO was involved in this. I have been watching this thread closely and have enjoyed watching the collaboration to get this device rooted!! KUDOS!!!!!

Edit: Oh and this was on a 64-bit win 7 Ultimate build

ok, cool i'm all set, superuser installed and good to go. Did notice that SuperSu from the app store doesn't work though, and I know a lot of people prefer that. Not sure what the problem is.

Noticed that too.

LGNPST has been in Sub Progressing for 16 mins and Upgrade still says 0%...

Phone still is in "Stand By" status...

Nothing happened so I quit out. Phone is still fine but I'm sure not rooted...

I'm running SuperSU...

Superuser and SuperSU use different su binaries. The binaries we are pushing to do root are for Superuser.

After rooting you need to install Superuser and then install SuperSU.

The first time you run SuperSU it will tell you it needs to update the SU binaries, click continue and it will ask for root permission from SuperUser so it can replace those binaries with it's own.

Once SuperSU installs you can remove SuperUser

Hmmm... I find it interesting that my girlfriend received a text message today, telling her that there are new terms and conditions which will be effective July 1, but I haven't received the same message. She sent me the link, and I started looking it over, and I find this paragraph rather interesting:

"We can, without notice, suspend or terminate any Service at any time for any reason. For example, we can suspend or terminate any Service for the following: (a) failure to have or maintain an appropriate account balance for applicable charges; (b) harassing/threatening/abusing/offending our employees or agents; (c) providing false or inaccurate information; (d) interfering with our operations; (e) using/suspicion of using Services in any manner restricted by or inconsistent with the Agreement and Policies; (f) breaching, failing to follow, or abusing the Agreement or Policies; (g) modifying a Device from its manufacturer specifications (for example, rooting the device); or (h) if we believe the action protects our interests, any customer's interests, or our networks" [emphasis for section (g) added by me]

So far as I can tell, rooting is NOT specifically mentioned under the current ToS, so I'm wondering why they're suddenly adding it in.

Double check your setup and settings and try again

Once you click start it should ask for spc code, backup nv and reboot into download mode within a couple minutes.

I got this text message a while back when I was still using my optimus v. They are just updating their terms of service to be more inline with Sprint's.

They have no way of knowing your phone is rooted unless you send them back a rooted phone in a warranty swap unless they've developed some magical method that they've put on the Elite.. :D

Just normal old corporate legal B.S.
