Root Well, lets get the ball rolling

Thats what I've been registering them with this whole time :/

Well then, perhaps the other way around. LOL.

I'm not sure... I have a 64 bit Windows PC here, but I rarely use it for anything.

Perhaps running LGNPST in compatibility mode might help.

Certainly, I would check regedit for the DLLs you received errors about and check to see it they are registered and the location it thinks they should be.

Whenever I try to register those DLL files, this error box pops up telling me something about how the entry-point dll server could not be found, and to make sure that the dll file was a valid dll file.

Well, after flushing my system of everything associated with LG and then reinstalling from scratch, and working out all the drivers and .dll files, I tried to flash it and it still stops at 11% with a COM Port error. I've accepted the fact that I will most likely never have root on my OE.

Maybe you could check to see if anybody with a known-working installation lives near you and could help you root it. I'm just north of Chicago, so it doesn't really make sense for me, but maybe it's worth a shot if you really want it rooted.

Did you ever try a different PC?

I'm sorry, man, you've certainly put some effort into this goal. Good luck.

Yeah, I tried it on my mothers laptop. And it's alright, thanks for all your help :D

all i did was ask for my msl..i stated some apps have caused loss of data
and i want my msl to reset..or say you are a developer..its your msl
second
download the lgnpst from here
http://androidforums.com/optimus-m-all-things-root/558063-guide-using-lgnpst-stock-2-2-2-a.html
the other 2 files i used rapid share to download
Download VM696 Root Android Police zip from MirrorStack
Download VM696 dll from MirrorStack
i think some files come through corrupted with other links
after opening/extracting
there are 2 lgnpst..its the one with 12 in it that you click to open
the other hangs on lockkey or something similar
when in lgnpst
and you go to flash
the instructions say to select the bin file
there is no bin
when attempting to open and search for the bin
you need to put.. *.* ..astrick period astrick
in the box for file name
hit enter
and you will see the tot file to flash
then
you need to install
android sdk..google it and install
then
follow these instructions

Yeah, I already did all that. I'm installing xp on another hard drive, that's the only thing I haven't done yet. This is a very elusive root for me -_-

Okay, I have my phone enabled with my MSL and I can select the .tot file in LGNPST but the VM696.dll doesnt show up. I successfully got the "right click register" and when i try registering the .dll a Regsvr32 error pops up saying:

"The module 'VM696.dll ll' may not be compatible with the version of Windows that you're running. Check if the module is compat with an x86(32 bit) or x64(64 bit) version of regsvr.exe"

Im running Windows 7 home premium (64 bit) and i also tried all of this on another computer with windows xp and also am using the .dll register script and instead of getting a message i get the "Open With" pop up window so i can choose a program to open the. dll with. Ive also been trying to register the dll with the command prompt with no success. I also get an error message when i use the cp saying :
"<filepath>" is not an executable file and no registration helper is registered for this file type.

Could the VM696.dll be corrupt?

Isn't it regsvr32.exe not "regsvr.exe"?
try CDing to your C:\Windows\sysWOW64 folder and running the same reg command
I think it's
regsvr32.exe (path to file) or something like that.
hope this helped =/

This was the same problem I encountered 2 pages back in this thread (not seeing VM696.dll in LGNPST) Open command prompt by right clicking it and choose open as administrator. Then try again to register it.

Hash if it's a com port error you need to set the com ports windows 7 assigns to the phone to the same port after each phone reboot

meaning that it will assign one com port to the phone during download mode
and then during normal mode (diag) it will assign two
The serial ports for both modes should be the same.

I know that I make it sound easy and I realize it is not.

Still you've gone this far, and installing windows xp (though imo windows 7 is still a better platform). You're on the brink of getting the root. Later on people will have one click roots and will never even think of the hell we went through to get this far.

I copied the DLL to the syswow64 location and ran the regsvr32.exe command from the root C:\ didn't have any issues

The syswow64 location is for 32-bit drivers I believe is what this is since it works on an regular XP system.

Thats what I had. I had the Com port for download mode set to COM13, and the one for diag mode set to 13. I just changed BOTH of the ports for diag mode to 13(the one that was weirdly labeled was COM12), and LGNPST doesn't even go to 1%, it just spits out a fail to go to DM mode error.

WhisperPntr is only referring to the LGE AndroidNet USB Serial Port. I believe you had it correct before (with LGE AndroidNet USB GPS NMEA Port on a different port).

"Phone in download mode
|-LGE AndroidNet USB Serial Port (COM10)

Phone in regular ##DIAG# Enabled
|-LGE AndroidNet USB Serial Port (COM10)
|-LGE AndroidNet USB GPS NMEA Port (COM11)"

I think I may have also had the LGE AndroidNet USB Modem disabled in Device Manager when I flashed:

Modems
|-LGE AndroidNet USB Modem

I'm not sure if it matters or not.

Did you have any luck with XP?

Do you have all Windows Updates installed on the computers you've been trying?

What i did to register the vm696.dll file:

Copy Vm696.dll to C:\Windows\system32

then i opened up Cmd prompt and typed in regsvr32 VM696.dll. Done

I also copied the Vm696.dll where ever the Reggie file was located and cmd prompt to the folder that Reggie.exe was in. Then typed Reggie Vm696.dll and all registered

Nothing happens on the last "adb shell chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/jc.sh"? I mean no message in CMD saying transfer speed or size like the two commands above it?

Fixed my DLL problem!!! SO IVE FINALLY GOT ROOT!!! WOOH!!

So i somehow got suckered into downloading the VM696.dll file witch it ended up being corrupted. It was giving me incompatibility errors wih led me to suspect that it was corrupted. So check those md5 sums befor u end up hurting someone :p

Ty all for pitching in anyway.

nice man! congrats :) I know how you feel, trust me :p

Well, looks like that last adb command doesn't give any response after inputting it and I am now rooted! :)

Edit: And for those barely getting started so you don't have to read too far back.

kwkwott posted this a few posts back: Installing LGNPST http://androidforums.com/4517269-post516.html and here is a guide for AndroidSDK which you will need to use ADB from: http://androidforums.com/4527243-post581.html and you can find it here: http://androidforums.com/faqs/443072-adb-guide-updated-12-05-2011-a.html

Aside from the usual: logged in as Administrator, trying a differnt usb port, putting a com port lower than ten, etsa etsa there's not much else I can think up. Wish I can magically pop over there with my laptop, root your phone and then magically pop back in hong kong. I remember teamviewing your set up and aside from the ownership (which I didn't check at the time) it pretty much checked out to be a-okay.

Great find. Do you remember the error message it spat out at you?
