Root What about factory data reset?

Aydos

Lurker
I keep seeing people post that they messed up their phone from removing things they should not have and people who are just paranoid of OTA after root.

Is the Factory Data Reset not an option or will that mess up the phone after the reset.

I know you just hit the home button > go to settings > go to privacy > and then select Factory Data Reset.

Will that not just make the phone go back to the way it was when you purchased it?

I am no expert at all hence the questions about this option.

Here's what a factory reset does:

It wipes /data/ and /cache/, where all user data is kept.

It does nothing to /system/, where we are now removing apps from.

So that's why a factory reset does not bring back these system apps, and that's why if you do one, and the system doesn't see the backup assistant, it will FREAK OUT.
