Help What are my options

hi guys, looking for some advice.

Last year I de branded my Vodafone desire to get version 2.2 onto the phone. I used the gold card method. I then updated OTA

At the moment however as I am sure has been said before I cannot apply further updates OTA as it errors during the install.

So what I'm asking really is what are my options if any when it comes to updating the software from the position it is in now?

is there some setting that i need to change?
is there a way to update via usb?
can i root the phone?

any help or links to some instructions that might help would be greatly appreciated.

no I never rooted it. not sure how to either

well thats good, you are in the wrong section though
if you are on 405.2 its a known issue that the ota for 405.5 will fail on debranded (not unbranded) devices even with a gold card

the options you have is to stay as it is or dowload the pb99img.zip and boot to bootloader to flash it.
the latter will wipe the device
