Root what are you guys using for tether?

OrKo

I just tried barnacle and wifi tether for root with no success. Barnacle showed some signs that it was trying but with no luck.

I've tried many different ones, none work. I'm working on getting this to work.

If you use OpenGarden it gives more details about the error.
-I see Error loading wlan.ko (first hint, maybe they just renamed the driver lol. I'll take a look at the source code)
-Build.prop has ro.disable.tether=true and a comment saying it's not supported (but it's just to trick users or because he didn't know. Tethering happens completely in software and can be done on any linux box with a wifi device as far as i'm aware of)

Interesting. If this works, and I can use teather via my connect. Then it'll save me 30$/month + 4g on Metro will be almost twice as fast :/

Portable Wi-Fi hotspot is a hidden settings

1. search "quick settings" by halfbit on the market and install it

2. open quick settings and press the menu button, its left from the home

3. "customize", scroll down to the "hidden settings" and drag "Wi-Fi hotspot" up to the "visible settings"

I was able to get that visible, but it did not work for me. I get an error. I am not rooted yet though if that needs to be done. I am holding of on rooting a couple weeks after my first smartphone practically died less than a month after getting it. I had to do the best I could to get un-rooted with a screen that was going crazy. Luckily they could not look at it too in depth because the screen was so messed up and jumping around. :D

this is for usb tethering use PdaNet

MUST HAVE DRIVERS INSTALL FIRST

search google "PdaNet_3.02.zip" extract, install, use "PdaNet.KG.exe" to register on pc

Barnacle works...
You will need to go into Settings and put a check next to:
Skip wpa_supplicant. I found this in a tech note on their website.
I am using it to connect my son's ipod while we are in the car and it works great.

My tether worked before, but it's not working after zv9 update. I was wondering if anyone is having the same problem as me.

It doesn't matter if you're rooted or not. I've tethered before without rooting and yes I am rooted but no working tether. I've heard that MetroPCS has found a way to block tethering, can this be why?

Get quick settings and tether widget from market. In quick settings un hide wifi tether, via tether widget enable tether. I'm pretty sure you must be rooted for this to work. I should probably change the thread title. Also note that Metro reps also say that Metro has blocked rooting our phones as well

Yea I'm showing that my tether isn't working now either. It worked flawlessly on zv8 before, now other devices just read "obtaining address...disconnect... Connecting...." With no tether. This makes me a sad panda.. =(
