What are you plans for the Droid?

The OG Droid is getting a little outdated compared to some of the newer phones coming out. As much as I love mine, it might be time to move on. My question is, what are you all planning on doing with the old phone when it comes time to upgrade?

I'm considering just holding onto in the chance something happens to whatever new phone I get. Thinking about saving on insurance and just going back to the Droid in case something happens.

First off....I'm running Pete Alfonso's GPA13 with a 1mhz clock speed and frankly I can't see upgrading for at least another year with these kinds of capabilities...
But - this trusty ole Droid can always be a music player, a photo storer, my grandkids gamer and my own game player for portability w/o opening my phone...not to mention playing downloaded movies, etc for flights.

so this Original design Droid has a heck of a lot of life left in it for anyone who takes the time to root and customize

I'm considering moving on to the Thunderbolt soon ( pending further review), but I also plan on hanging onto the ole Droid and continuing development, game playing, etc. It has been too good to me to trade it in for a paltry $70.00 on ebay or whatever VZW is offering.

When I get my Inc I will prob let my mom use my droid. She wants a phone with a keyboard and cant see her shelling out all that money just to stop typing on a number keypad.

But even for its age look at all the new roms and so on that's coming out. I remember when they said gingerbread wouldn't run on the droid. Guess what it runs great. Its a great lil droid that just like R2 a tough lil droid. I bet we will see this phone still going strong for many many many years to come.

While I have no current plans to get rid of my Droid anytime soon when the time comes I will keep it as a back-up smartphone and use it with the home-dock as an alarm clock.

Definitely keep as a back up and in the meantime let my kids use it for games and things.. BUT no short-term future plans on "upgrading" from my OG.

I love my rooted Droid, but it's def time to move on. Even OCed with the fastest and smoothest of ROMs, it just can't do what these new phones can and I'm simply impatient. I don't want to wait on an app to open or a web page to load. It was the best phone for me for the (soon to be) 15 months I've had it, and I've tweaked it in every which way possible.

I've got a family plan with 5 lines, 3 of which are smartphones. By tweaking my plan, I've saved money, but had to put data on every line. As it stands now, I've got 2 upgardes, and I'll be eligible come July (day 1 Droid owner). I've been waiting on the Bionic, and as long as they don't *****foot around, I'll be getting it when it drops. I'll be giving my Droid to my brother (currently without a smartphone), so I'll still get to play with new ROMs and see how far the dev community can push it.

That'll leave me with one upgrade. another upgrade looming, and still one dumbphone to replace (if I'm paying for data already, might as well). So I'll be very intently keeping an eye on what other phones are dropping and what's on the horizon. I may decide that I prefer a new phone over the Bionic and give the Bionic to my stepfather. Or I may decide to replace my g/f's Day 1 DInc and give that to him. All depends. But I've got a lot of options. But I really want to use those current upgrades as quickly as possible with one year contracts to be in this discussion come this time next year.

Same here. As soon as July comes around, my OG Droid will be replaced with a Bionic. The 1930 mAh battery in the Bionic plus dual core proc is simply going to be the best phone out on VZW. I was contemplating the Thunderbolt when I thought it was going to be dual core, but after having the OG Droid and seeing it slightly slow, I will not be getting anything less than dual core on my next one.

Mine will be come a dedicated home automation interface. I'd love to build it into a wall mount or something & have it be a keypad or something. Gotta figure out how to keep it charged.

Sorry for the long quote but in your opinion; what is the fastest and smoothest rom out there for the DROID? I'm currently running GPA14 by BB. Also, I agree it is time to start looking for a new phone.

Hard to say as opinions, needs, wants, and each Droid vary. For me, I think it's safe to say the best ROMs I've experienced were on 2.2. LFY1.7 was probably the best ROM I ran on my Droid. For 2.3, the best WAS PE5, but after a few days it became unusable. Too bad, b/c before that it was outstanding. Currently running LGB1.52, about to try UD3.2.5.

Marry it, settle down and have little phones?

LMAO!
