Please include a short description of what each does.

I'm trying to find some really good free apps to download, mainly utility-wise.

Currently my top 5 would be
1) Astro file manager - lets you edit file extensions, unzip, etc
2) Netflix - movies/tv shows on the go
3) Pandora - internet radio
4) Duolingo- learn languages on your phone
5) Candy crush saga - game for when im totally bored

Nova - Launcher
Light Flow - notification manager
Chess.com - chess app
IMDb - internet movie database
Weatherbug - weather app

All are either free, or have free versions. Very hard to list just 5!

ES File Explorer = File manager, application manager, task killer, cloud storage client, etc.
AndroBlip = Lets you upload a daily photo to blipfoto.com.
aCalendar = A different calendar app.
Color Note = A simple notepad app.
Shoot = Launches your camera app in camcorder mode. No more mix ups, just hit record. May not work with all phones.

These are just a few. There is another sticky thread asking what are people's favorite apps.

Dock4Droid (a slick multitask gesture app)
Nova Prime (just such a fast, solid launcher)
Youtube (endless entertainment and the app isnt bad)
Smart Keyboard Pro (the most perfect keyboard for people who are still faster typing on a 3x4 keypad with two thumbs than using a qwerty one)
Tv Portal (stream US tv programmes and THOUSANDS of movies)

1.Titanium Back-Up = allows me to back and restore my phone
2.GMD Spen Control = allows me to create my own spen gestures
3. Super download = allows me to use both wifi and 4g lte to download things off the internet
4. Cerberus Anti-Virus = gives me much greater control in recovering my stolen phone
5. Kindle = because it allows me to carry my kindle library on my phone.

the order is arbitrary because depending on what I am doing the order will change

Titanium Backup - Backup/Restore App (root users)
TapaTalk 2 - Forum Reader
Boat Browser - Simple Lightweight Browser
Rom ToolBox - Ton of Root Tools
ES File Explorer - File Manager

Google Maps (It helps to navigate streets, landmarks, parks, and other outdoor locations all over the world),

Auto Memory Manager (It lets you set memory priority on apps),

History Eraser Pro (It makes simple to delete junk off your phone),
Juicedefender (It conserves battery life by disabling the most draining components),

Tripit (It keeps track of flights, car rentals, hotel reservations, and more),

Facebook (Best Social Networking App),

Twidroid pro(best Twitter app),

Go Ex Launcher(best launcher on the market), etc.

LINE - Messenger better than Whatsapp (IMHO)
S Memo - Notepad
AVG Antivirus
Tapatalk - Forum Viewer?
Google Chrome - Browser

Our Groceries (Cross-platform instantly synced shopping, to-do, & packing lists).

Bluetooth Launch (Let's me launch Google Voice Search and then issue commands like "Call John Smith" or "Play Beatles" by pressing the "Play/Pause" button on my Bluetooth headset.

Silent Time (Set recurring events for phone to be silent at night, during church, etc.)

Dish Anywhere (Watch programming from my satellite DVR from anywhere.)

WiFi Tether (Free Hotspot.)

The UG - Mixed martial arts forum but also has news, event listings etc

Grumpy Bears - Seriously addictive game

Astro File Manager - File browser

Drippler - Collects Note II-related news stories from across the web

ColorNote - Simple note taking app

I got 3 more apps to add to my original list:

1) TuneIn Radio - seriously the best free INTERNATIONAL radio/music app out there. Better than pandora, spotify, slacker, and iheartradio in terms of buffering, variety, and playlist creation combined.

2) Brightest Flashlight Free

3) Evernote - great notekeeping app

1. Waze -- This is a mapping app. It provides much better traffic information and better route selection than Google Maps. I use this almost every time I start the car.

2. Volume Widget -- This widget allows me to change my sound levels with a single tap of the widget. When I go to bed, I tap it to turn off my notifications while keeping my ringer and alarm sound on. When I wake up, I tap it to set my sound volumes to normal. When I go out, I tap it to set all sound volumes to max.

3. SwiftKey -- This alternate keyboard is the one that made me no longer miss my physical keyboard. Great text prediction and I like the split layout in landscape.

4. Nova Prime -- Launcher. I use this to get rid of that annoying dock and configure my home screen so I have a 6x4 grid.

5. Android Pro Widgets -- I miss the HTC widgets I had on my old Desire Z. I think they were amongst the best widgets ever. I used the Twitter for HTC and Calendar widget. Now that I have a Samsung phone, I no longer have those widgets. The Android Pro Widgets were the best ones for Twitter and Calendar I have found so far. Not as good, but an adequate replacement.

6. Keyboard Manager -- I happen to use SwiftKey in landscape, but use Swype/Google (still deciding between the two) in portrait. This app will switch keyboards automatically when my screen orientation changes.

My Top 5 would be
Kindle--ebook reader
BeWeather Pro--weather
Pinterest
Clean Master-- cache and history cleaner
Atrium---Facebook app

1. Waze -- This is a mapping app. It provides much better traffic information and better route selection than Google Maps. I use this almost every time I start the car.
Google has just bought Waze...I hope they would leave it the way it is, but for how long is the question. :(

I have a link about it in the Apps thread.

I heard the news. I'm actually optimistic about this move. I'm hoping Google will get rid of Bing search and replace it with Google search.
