What case (if any) is everyone using on their Razr?

I didn't see a single post about the SGP Ultra Capsule so I ordered it and will post a review once it arrives. I was on the fence about getting a case until I read the post that said "I dropped my phone on asphault, dinging and scratching the piss out of it. I was so mad at myself."

If the SGP Case doesn't fit in my HD dock, I'll just take off the case. I couldn't have cared less when I threw or dropped my iphone but I don't want to ruin my RAZR.

The funny thing is, I got the case over a week ago and got the wrong one. I got a cheap, rubbery one that was transparent and had no cutouts.

I wrote to the seller and he offered to send the right one for free. After a week I got the right one in black and I have to say I like it.

It is hard plastic
Has very nice feel to it.
Cutouts for camera, power, volume, etc.
Very slim and sexy pattern on it.

There are some disadvantages.

The cutouts for power and volume are a tad bit in the wrong place. This is not caused by manufacturer's carelessness, but rather by the fact that the sides that hold the case on the phone are rather slim and to not wrap around the phone up to the screen, but only stick out a tiny bit, so there was simply no space for them to be deeper.

On top and bottom, the case does not wrap around the phone, but instead there are blunt ends, that feel like they stick out and sometimes make it a bit uncomfortable.

All in all it is the best case available atmfor this phone IMHO.

P.S. Sorry about the poor description of the case, but I am not a native English speaker and it is very difficult to describe something like that. If you look at the photos of the case on eBay, it may be easier to understand what I am talking about.

I know you said its hard plastic, but is there a grip to it? I am thinking I want to get a case for this phone. Its just so thin and slick I don't want to drop it even though Im always careful with my phones.

Because it is not smooth, the grip is excellent. I would say much better than without it.

Overall, I can say I love the case and am going to keep it on.
 
UPDATE: Just received the Nillkin hard case. It's a snap-to-back case.

Pros:
very thin, but not paper-thin;
light texturizing on back;
non-gloss;
circular cutout to frame the "M" on the back.

Cons:
the cutouts are cut very close to the buttons, so you can almost forget pressing with the pads of your fingers. You almost have to use your nail. For some, that may be a good thing to prevent inadvertent presses.

I have the same case and the same observation re: button cutouts.

I have had it for a few days now and love it, though.
 
I'm not really using a case. I went ahead and bought a skinit overlay though. www.skinit.com. Got one of my favorite college team.

It doesn't really protect it though if I drop it. I don't drop my phones though. I have a belt clip case I put it in and it just barely fits. So if I put another case on the phone, I wouldn't be able to use my belt clip case.
 
Looking for the thinnest case with a little grip on the back... any suggestions? I am using Verizon's black silicone case right now, I like the size and make but the back gets too slippery.
 
I received the SGP Ultra Capsule case yesterday and I absolutely love it. Every part of the case is done with precision. It's made with semi-hard rubber and I can twist it around on itself but it's in no way flimsy and it conforms to the phone perfectly. I feel more comfortable putting the phone in my pocket or on it's face so I can hear the speaker. It does not fit in the HD dock but it only takes a couple seconds to get it off so it's not a problem. Everything I want in a case and it was only $21 shipped.

To those considering cases, think about this:
1 front
1 back
4 sides
4 corners

Eventually SOMEONE will drop your phone. The chances of dropping it on its gorilla glass front or kevlar back are much lower than the sides and corners which aren't as tough.

I just got the OtterBox Commuter and I like it a lot. Multiple levels of protection and the finish on the backside is very nice. The whole thing is comfy, and light, and was $26 (came with a screen protector as well). The SGP Ultra Capsule that Spirk posted seems like a really good option as well, or the Seidio Active. All 3 are solid options offering a lot of protection, just go with what you like the look of the most.
 
Add another to the list:

Just got the Seidio Active case and I like it a lot. It has a soft rubber layer that goes on over the back first, with a separate plastic exoskeleton that snaps on over it. It looks very nice from the back (and a little bit pillow-y from the front). The soft rubber covers the power button and volume rocker, but is molded to show the outline of the buttons, and makes the buttons a pleasure to push. It covers up the MicroSD and SIM port, but the case is easy to remove on the rare occasion when these need to be accessed.

One feature I like is it does NOT have those loose "flaps" like I have seen on Otter Box. The ports are exposed, and the exoskeleton frames the ports (earphone, USB, HDMI) nicely.

The overall thickness is significantly greater than on one of the Nillkin cases, but seems much more cushy and protective.

EDIT: the BEST FEATURE, which I just discovered, is that it fits PERFECTLY into the Moto windshield mount. They clearly designed it this way. It is a nice, snug fit that aligns the USB perfectly so that sliding connector thing goes straight in like butter.

Great review. Can you describe the TPU material? Is it the same as any other? It almost looks shiny on the top end where it surrounds the screen bezel but a different shade elsewhere. Is it just the lighting? I need a true TPU case so it doesn't slide around on my car's console.

I'm using the Otterbox Defender. I had mixed feelings about this case at first because it is bulky and kind of defeats the purpose of having a sleek thin Razr phone. But after last week, I'm glad I kept it.

I had left my phone on top of my car and drove down the street. I realized that my phone was missing and thought I may have dropped it in my driveway or something, so I turned around and went back home. I couldn't find it there, and was late, so I headed back down the street again. I stopped the car as soon as I saw some pieces in the road. I found the Otterbox case popped open and the Razr a few feet away. The phone had some cosmetic damage on the edges, but the screen and all operations were OK. The case survived too. One of the plastic tabs by the headphone jack is slightly bent, but the rubber outer shell tab still fits snugly there.

I'm convinced the phone fell off my car and was subsequently run over by another car. There's no other way the phone could have popped out of this case.

The case has a great feel. It's a soft rubbery shell surrounding a hard plastic case. The rubber shell is quite slip resistant. The soft rubber combined with the diagonal grooves on the back keep this phone in place whether it's in your hand or on another surface (except a moving car as mentioned above.) I feel very secure having this on my phone.

The rubber buttons on the case work perfectly and are actually easier to press than without the case because of the larger size of the rubber buttons.

Now some things that aren't so great. The screen protector slightly distorts the beautiful Razr screen. It's not bad, but it is noticeable if you take off the case and use it without for awhile. Like I mentioned before, this is a bulky case, but that's what you need for the extra protection. You can't access the micro sd card without removing the case, but I don't ever remove it, so it's not a big issue for me. The hard plastic inner case is not easy to remove. This is good and bad. You know it probably won't come off in a normal fall, but if you want to take it off for some other reason, it will take some time.

Bottom line, it's a great case for protection and I definitely recommend it based on my experience. It's comfortable in the hand and adds a great level of protection to the Razr.
