What changes do YOU see with Froyo 2.2?

Sorry, i just dont believe this at all. Before the update, maybe...but now..no way. Good thing i work on a computer all day and keep my usb cable handy because my battery life sucks and thats with minimal use. (checking a few text and emails) For instance today, lets say i got to work at 9am (100% charged because of my car charger), it is now 11:52 east coast time and i am at 72%. All i've done today was check a few emails and send a few text. Before the update the only way i would be this low by now is if i was playing music the whole time. Needless to say i wont be turning the music player on...:-(

Whats not to believe? Mine is just as good....if not better. And I have sync on all day with touiteur updating every 10 minutes... bloo updating every 5 minutes. I dont know what to tell ya but there are plenty of us that see this after 2.2.

And just imagine if I actually had sync off. If you're having battery issues you probably have an app running that's keeping the phone awake. I had battery issues too until I figured out an app was running and deleted it. Been pure bliss ever since.

I'm still losing 10% every hour, no matter what I do. I've done the hard reset, I've got things only syncing every 4 hours or so, I've got System Panel (paid version) and I just have no idea what is eating my battery.

Check your awake and up time. Look at them and then turn your screen off... wait for about 10 minutes. If your up time isnt 10 minutes further ahead than your awake time then something is keeping your phone awake and it WILL kill your battery faster.

Yeah, I've been monitoring the awake/up time for the past day. They are not equal. Up time is at 44:21 now with awake time at 30:41. I just cannot figure out what is killing it.

That's not exactly a normal differential unless you were using the phone a lot during that time frame. For example, at this very moment my up time is 6 hours and 38 minutes.. my awake time is 37 minutes.

I took a couple pictures, texts, emails etc. Would that make a difference? I've never seen a difference like yours. That's outstanding! I only wish I could figure this out.

Well from what i've gathered my awake time shuts down as soon as I turn my screen off. I think thats the way it should be... im going to do a screen shot for the naysayers.

Yeah kindaaaa off topic, but...

Since updating from the prereleased .3 version to the OTA .6 version my HTC coin flip runs a lot smoother. Didn't work too well in .3

Well last night I had a 100% charge but somehow out here on my desk while charging my orange light would go off and when I moved the phone it would come back on it was weird. So I decided to try my bedroom plug and I went to bed and plugged it in and every time I set the phone on the night stand and hit the power button to make the screen go black it would wake itself back up and turn on and the charging light would go off. I guess that is what was happening out front on my desk. But I already opened up my FB app and logged out and force closed it. I know they said it was causing battery drains and keeping phone awake. So now I am ready for the official Froyo. I got mine early but having 4 batteries I should be ok. I was using an old 3 dollar charger from my LG Lotus and it quit working. UPS just dropped me off a new one. It was like 15 bucks and said OEM rapid charger and it says Motorla on there. I hope it works. I was starting to worry if it's my charging port since my light kept going off and on at my desk last night but that is when I noticed it kept waking up and that is when the light was going off I don't know. I just know it's not bad enough for me to do a Hard Reset.

I decided to turn off Auto Sync too and just turn it on every so often. But with a phone like this we shouldn't have to turn off this and do this to get battery to last longer. I'm glad I bought the battery charger that came with 2 extra battery plus I had an extra one from my TP2 so I am good.

How did you go from .3 to .6 I thought you couldn't do it just yet? I thought HTC was coming out with a fix in the next day or two? Or did you hard reset and start over?

I did this and 10 minutes later I am on up time 14:43 and awake time 11:14. Mine isn't 10 minutes further ahead only 3 or 4 minutes. How do I know what's killing my battery. Could it be that Facebook update even though I logged out of it and closed it?

I'm willing to bet your awake time was less than 2 hours.

Just CLOSE YOUR eyes :p !!

Are you talking about the Home/Menu/Back/Search buttons?? I've honestly NEVER noticed them, even at night. Like I said, I tend to close my eyes at night ;)

But yes, I've heard that rooting can adjust that.

Yes, those are the ones. The thing is, these buttons were never lit up bright at night. I think with 2.1 the brightness changed with the screen brightness. Now with 2.2, it doesn't change so they are as bright with screen brightness all the way down as they are when its all the way up. Doesn't make sense if ya ask me.

Whats your point... I SAID in another post what my awake time was. And regardless I have sync ON... with 3 gmails, twitter and facebook, facebook for sense, and bloo ALL updating. I'm getting better life than most folks here with sync on than they're getting with it off. My awake time was a little under an hour and I had 80% battery left after 8 hours and 56 minutes... you do the math.

My point is, im trying to point out that if you are not using the device with the screen on, using apps, surfing online, you can't compare that to a person who is.

and after that edit, with the phone being awake under an hour, proves my point.

lol really your point is pretty null.. considering so far today my awake time is 1:37 and counting and im still at 74%. Nice try though.

Froyo is new to us all, so i don't know if i can help you. but the F$%^in battery is not new to me. if the problem persists, please PM me. i will try to help.

(my battery went from 6 hours maximum per charge to around 19. and it looks like i may not be done improving it.)

Yeah there's a fix floating around since last night. Apparently HTC sent the file to a sprint store or something and it got out. IDK. i'm at .6 now though.

My screens been off for awhile now and I just turned it back on and it says uptime 15:57 and awake time 11:36 weird. That's not good right? Something is keeping it awake and I wonder if it is FB even though I'm looged out and it's closed.

If you had a problem with up/wake then it takes time to reflect in the numbers once rectified. you have 2 integers that move, based on an average, and so see if over the next couple hours the up/awake continues to diverge.

Try going to Menu / Settings / Applications / Running and see what's running that you're not aware of. After the updates I found the Facebook app had major flaws causing the phone to not sleep which caused serious battery drainage. In most cases the issues stem from some app you have installed that's not 100% compatible with Froyo and needs an update. Or, needs to be removed. Another example of my personal issues after the update, a program that password protected certain areas of my phone called Protector was causing all kinds of issues and I had to delete it. It was causing apps to force close, hang, etc.

So, basically, it's not the update to 2.2 that is the issue. It's the incompatibilities with 2.2 that are the culprits. Finding those problem apps is what takes the time. That's why a lot of people have simply done a factory reset which wipes out all the third party apps. Suddenly their phone works great. That is, until they reload the app that was causing the problem. But, sometimes apps NEED to be reinstalled and that, in itself, fixes the problems associated with it.

So, try that approach and see if it fixes your speed, lag and battery problems. My phone is working great now and I can see/feel an obvious difference in performance from 2.1

Thanks htmlcssguru. I have been wondering which apps are the culprits as I reinstalled most of them after the hard reset and I'm thinking it's either the coupon app or the photobucket app because I had the drain before 2.2 as well. I'm going to watch those two apps closely over the next day or so. I don't even open them, they just keep popping up on their own.

no one has posted this yet that i saw, but you can resize widgets???? this is great. sorry if it was already posted. i didn't see it

Yeah I noticed that you can resize widgets as well. It is a nice feature that allows you to center your icons if you have the room.

Would one also have to be blind to see that not everyone has all of these issues.. just like some have bad battery life and some dont

I've been trying to follow on the threads how I can improve battery life and as mentioned before mine doesn't appear to be as bad as some.

But starting to feel it's near impossible to have a fix that will work for everyone. Bottom line it can be an app or settings or sync frequency etc... but I will continue to follow as there will be some tidbit of info I can always use.

Not the old days when a phone didn't have running apps and we can all say this will fix your problem.

I do wish however when discussing battery issues we at least start with a baseline and that is what hardware version you're running. Because maybe, oh just maybe, that might be a variable worth looking into.
