Help What class is the 16gb microsd card?

I have a 2 and I ordered from wirefly.com. So what if anything is different with the two? Is 4 better? I don't know maybe a dumb question. I was looking into getting a 32 g anyhow should I be looking for numbers on them also??

The Sandisk class 2 is plenty fast for anything the droid x can do. It's about the same speed as the generic class 4.

I'm not necessarily sure how true that statement about the 2 being sufficient is. Recording 720p and 8MP photos isn't some tiny task and the read-write speeds should really be noticeable when doing that. Also, I would imagine if you stick a larger movie file onto your phone (ie, a 1.3GB 50 minute show), it will have a very high bitrate and accessing it quickly will be partially dependent on the read speed.

I believe I have a class 2 card and I fully intend to cause a ruckus until I am given a class 4.

EDIT: I just took time to actually look at your link. That is some compelling info... maybe I don't need to make a ruckus after all.

My brother and I both received DXs ordered at the same time. I believe he got a class 4 and I got a class 2. If this turns out to be the case I will run the tests you suggested and post the results.

The class rating is supposed to be the minimum write speed of the card in MB/s. Higher number, the faster the minimum write speed of the card. Really most useful in terms of video recording, as if the card is too slow it will drop frames.

The card class has nothing to do with read speeds. In theory, the only difference will be write speeds (I say in theory because as my link notes, the cards may actually perform well beyond their stated class). Nothing that any smartphone on the market today is doing that requires writing to the sd card outpaces a class 2 sd card. The most write intensive task is probably recording 720p video and the bitrates simply aren't high enough to require anything faster than a class 2 card.

Read speeds will not be a factor for any sd card. All of the read speeds tested in my link are 4-5x what would be needed to read a raw bluray file.
