Root What do rooted users do tomorrow? 8/18

NBbomar

So if I'm rooted running 2.2 FrankenROM, do I need to do anything tomorrow IF froyo comes out? Or just ignore it?

it aint coming out so dont worry about it...lol

+1

And even if it did come out, it's already been mentioned before to *not* install the update as it could mean the permanant loss of root.

Just wait until they take it and make it all nice and home-ly... and rooted.

I dont think its coming out either but thanks to the unrEVOked forever tool we dont have this problem anymore we should be able to flash it no problem and never lose root... but I dont honestly see it changeing anything from the roms that are out right now they are very stable and everything works

Yup, with forever we will not lose root.

However, I still would enjoy something "official" for once. =P

I'm kind of nervous to root. Was so easy on WM. Am I in for a thrill ride or just follow everything step by step and I'm good?

Follow everything step by step and you'll be good.

It's super easy and fast , the only thing that takes time is reinstalling all your apps and setting everything up even with titanium it took a little bit of time.

^ I agree.. but thats to be expected when your talking about something that if we lost it or it was broken for more then a few hours we would probably go insane... double and triple read the instructions before doing it... I think I read the instructions for 4 days straight twice a day before I did it

i did the same thing.
and then when i did it i felt stupid for waiting so long... lol

it was extremely easy. i went to my friends house and used his mac to root his aria a few weeks after rooting my dinc, that was even easier:

-turn on debug mode, plug it in, click start, wait 5-10 minutes, unplug, hand phone to happily rooted friend.

simple.

It may not be coming tomorrow. Probably not since it hasn't finished pushing to motoDroids yet. But since they have posted the source for the new Kernel and their Froyo Build I must say that is a decent indication that it is approved and waiting in the cue. Could be wrong it might just be some kind of weird HTC thing to screw up root users and self compilers but seems like a sign that things aren't far off to me.

just as always it aint coming so not even waiting for it lol
they are trying to fix unrevoked method so we cant control what is ours
last I checked I own the phone not lease, why dont they just worry about making
things better instead of fu*king paying customers over all the time

If for some odd chance the single internet rumor that spawned countless other rumors of us getting froyo tomorrow rings true - just remain calm and don't do a thing until you hear from someone who knows what is what.

vzw is supposed to get a new build to test this week at the last phase of testing, which means (pending it passes) we should have it in about three weeks...i've heard that there seems to be a pattern, fail two and the third passes. idk why, but this would be the third test build so hopefully the pattern stays true.

rooted users who used Unrevoked forever can load up the stock recovery, take the update, and then load clockworkmod recovery and superusuer back up and be up and running again. this is what the Evo people are doing.

of course these were evo users on 2.1 update 1.

Since installing Forever, I noticed there is a zip file titled "recovery-update.zip" in my Clockwork folder. Was it there all along and I just didn't notice it or is this the Clockwork Mod recovery that we will be using after accepting the OTA?

It's always been there Iowa. I dunno what it does but it has always been there on mine. :)

Hmmm can I ask how you would know this?

And if true hopefully we will get a leaked version of that this week.

If that is what is going on then we should see a leak. They seem to be pretty good about leaking this to someone here or at XDA I haven't figured out which or if it's both or if you guys are just that on top of it. Though they posted the source for both the new Kernel and the new OS so I have to think that they have an approved version just waiting to roll out. It seems there has been another hiccup with the Moto Droid Rollout so if it is the same company pushing it out it may just be a matter of waiting our turn. I mean these are supposedly the highest selling Android phones of all time. Number one Moto Droid number two Droid Incredible so as for rolling out these will be the two longest. Wonder if there will be yet another Radio on the final rollout. Also with the reliability of the leaks I wonder if the active Romming community isn't actually part of the testing and research since we would stretch it and bend it and if by some strange happenstance they are watching it may be that some of our craziness is finding problems that normal testing labs don't find. Like unofficial field testing.

Just a paranoid conspiracy theory that makes all this a little more fun for me.
