Root What does rooting give me

So I'm new the driod world.

Could someone tell me what rooting gives me?

I've seen things about Roms and stuff.

Thanks

More control over the system side of the operating system, including (but not limited to) more ways to directly access your hardware, plus more ways to actually make changes in your system - such as hiding apps that you ever use (for me, for example, apps like the VZW stuff) as well as the ability to replace parts of or even the entire operating system with a newer, faster, or themed OS.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Rooting gave me the two day long search of how to turn haptic back on....LOL...Why in gods name would they put that under sounds?!?!

I rooted my TB for a month, it fixed my main problem like rebooting but it caused some problems too. 1 was the keyboard would be 'off' a little sometimes (you press the A and the S would be on the screen), you'd have to turn the screen off and back on to fix.

As far as someone like myself rooting, I don't really see its purpose now.

The bloatware doesn't really effect it much, removing things isn't as easy as "uninstall" and its gone.

Unless you know what you're doing and its more than flashing a new rom, I would recommend you not waste your time and stick with what the phone comes with. Just my 2 cents.

I must say, I do really love all these "Should I root?" "What is rooting?" posts, its been done so many times!

Google... you know the company that designed Android, they actually have this ancient thing called Google it lets you search the internet for stuff like this.

Sorry, not trying to be an ass... just sayin'

I think it depends on you. Do you want everything taken care of for you or do you want to manipulate how it works?

If you want it taken care of for you - rooting is a bad thing - you will be constantly bogged down dealing with issues that you think you should not have to deal with. When you make a mistake you will be climbing a wall over the impact.

If you want to manipulate how it works - rooting opens a whole new realm of possibilities from a wide range of developers. Without rooting these solutions are simply not available. When you make a mistake you will treat it as yet another learning experience, learn while you solve it, and grow.

(Notice I said "when you make a mistake" and not "if you make a mistake".)

Certain apps only work with root like reboot widgets, ad blockers. It also allows you to modify the second linux partition on the phone. The phone has both Android and Ubuntu (Webtop).

What about if you root it and dont mess with it to much. Just to be able to remove some bloatware, ads, maybe change the OS. If you stop playing around with the system and dont become a ROM addict or something are you still bound to screw something up? I want to mess with it just a little..
