What features do you want on the Evo 2?

Not sure if "Square" has been mentioned. I can't really comment on the functionality of it, but I just noticed it in the market and it seems like it will be rather helpful.

It is a free credit card scanner for your phone. If you download and activate the app, they send you the phone attachment for free. They take a percentage of each payment that you take through their service, but it adds a bit more security over taking checks (if you don't have your own check authorization company). This will be extremely beneficial for my side job doing home theater installs.

Credit card, done.

Well I guess my main wants would be the bigger better quality display, landscape homescreen, better camera, more RAM, new Sense and I'm set.

I don't wanna start a thread for this in here as it's likely to get sent over to the Sprint forum, but:

How do you guys feel about most of us getting shafted of our yearly upgrades due to changes in the Sprint Premiere system? I planned to get the Evo 2 or whatever they call it on launch day, or whenever my yearly upgrade let me, but my plan isn't enough to put me on the Gold Premiere status. Most of us will struggle to get Evo 2 with this new policy. It's lame.

A complete business disincentive. The difference between the non-upgrade and upgrade price is likely to be greater than the early termination fee, to be paid when switching to another carrier for a new subscriber deal on the Evo 2's counterpart elsewhere.

Takes effect April Fools Day.

If they couldn't see the first one, I'm not surprised they didn't see the second.

Didn't think about that, good point.

I might only do one year contracts from now on. I want some fresh tech!

Question: If I get gold status and use my yearly upgrade does that re-up my 2 year contract? If it does I'm not going to bother.

Biggest disappointment with present Evo is picture quality. "8 megs" sounds great but the quality is really bad. New Evo needs a higher quality lens to produce better pics.

For me, it's good enough for a phone and in fact takes better night pictures than my old Sony 10mp point and shoot (that also went dead in 1 year). But it definitely would be nice to see them improve on the camera lens to produce better pics.

And piggy backing on that, I'd also like to see them make the back cover contoured more around the lens area, for more protection. Even though I automatically cut up one of my old screen protectors and placed that over the lens, I'd much rather have the battery cover come up and over the lens. Can't see that being a "diffcult" design.

FWIW, in case we have any newcomers - I use that cheap, black silicon case from the Sprint store that everyone seems to hate because of appearance and bulk. It's thicker than the lens protrusion, so it's pretty protective.

But agree - better if that beast is protected by design!

Yes, I agree, EarlyMon. There are a few cases out there that don't add much bulk, but do protect the lens (I know...I've bought almost all of them). In the end, I just hated the feel of the phone with any case that I tried and when I got the OEM dock, I realized that I'm pretty protective of my phone as is, so decided to stay case-less.

But yeah, definitely would be great for them to just re-construct the battery cover slightly so that the plastic rises up near the lens, so that the lens would never touch surface in any circumstance. And that won't add any bulk to the back cover either.

Full HDMI output (what you see on the phone is on the screen)
Better camera (lets be honest, the camera is garbage)
Better power management
Smoother transitions from horizontal to vertical (basically better use of the accelerometer)
More internal storage, 1 gig is kind of weak.

Other than that I'm pretty good.

I honestly don't find the camera that bad, and this is coming from an iPhone 4. Yes, it can surely improve, but I wouldn't go as far as call it garbage. There are few significanly better cameras on phones out there, IMO.

BTW, is there 4G in Moorpark yet? That's my home town!

DEFINITELY want full HDMI output, I haven't decided if I am getting the EVO or not but if I could do that with Google Maps, I would be able to run the HDMI cable to my head unit in my car and eliminate the need for the $250 navigational add-on.

Battery...I don't know since I don't have one but if it could last all day on decent usage I would be happy.

How is the display in sunlight? The DInc was horrible. Couldn't see anything.

8GB internal storage please, just like my DInc IIRC

I'm from over in TO. Those places will never get it lol. You graduate from there?

I disagree. If you take that same time on the Galaxy S or iPhone 4, you get better pictures than the Evo.

How much better are you wanting? I have seen, and taken, some pretty amazing images with my Evo, at least within the limitations of any camera phone, and have actually got some that rival or surpass my wife's Minolta Stylus 8000 (want to talk about a camera that won't impress you).

The limiting factor here is the sensor size, the smaller the sensor and the higher the megapixel count, the "noisier" the pictures become. A sensor is made up of an array of tiny lenses, each situated over a pixel, the smaller the sensor the smaller the lenses, and as the megapixel count goes up the smaller they have to get yet. Despite sounding contradictory, more pixels do not correlate directly to better pictures, the smaller the lens the less light information captured at the pixel level. My Canon 5D MKII at 21 mp takes stunning pictures because it is a full frame sensor at 36 x 24 mm, at 21 mp any camera phone, most of which are 1/6", would take crap.

I would expect a better on-phone camera from Samsung, they are a camera manufacturer after all. I personally have not had any experience with the koolaid drinker 4.

I will give you the optics could be improved, there is room for some improvement in the software, and the sensor could probably improve a bit, maybe even a mini hotshoe connection (in fact, add that to my list of wants) for off camera flash, but given the limitations it is impressive for what it is.

Good explanation, Big Ed. That is an awesome dslr, my friend has the same camera, I have a Canon 30D. Now if I could only get my 50mm 1.8 & 28mm 2.8 lenses to mount up to my EVO!!

Thanks, I love the camera, takes awesome night shots. Have not played with the 1080P video much yet, but we are about to do some videos for our website. That would be awesome, those are both be L series, correct?

Can't decide if I want a 1DS MK IV when it hits, a medium format or a RED ONE for my next "toy".:D

One of these days i would like to pickup a full-frame camera, although the 7d is what I'm looking at now. Those 2 lenses are non-L glass, just primes, the 24-70mm 2.8 and 70-200mm 4.0 would be my choice in L glass. The 28mm 2.8 I have I picked up from a shooter moving to medium format. I keep wondering what else is Canon going to add to these cameras after full-frame, 22mp, 8fps, and 1080p.......

lol, I understand how it works. When I say the camera could be better, I am specifically talking about the optics and the compression on the video. I want to take 1080p video and have it look nice when I play it on a tv. The Evo does 720p and it looks like garbage on a tv.

Ah-so...I see now. I haven't messed with the video much at all so I can't say on that one for sure, but the smaller sensor is still going to be a limiting factor there as well. I have not seen any of the other phones video outputs, haven't even used my 5D MKII's video much yet, I am more of a still shot man, but that is changing.:D

Ok, I was wondering what is going to be next for the Evo. My upgrade came due today so I'm in the market. With all of the new dual-core phones coming out on ATT and VRZ I was wondering the following...will they drop the price of the Evo to continue to be competitive (I believe ATT is releasing a dual-core for $99 made by HTC and the Bionic on Vrz also By HTC). Will they come out with a new one with this big announcement on 2-7-11 or will they just keep the thing at $199? That doesn't make a lot of sense to me considering Dell just came out today with the dual-core Streak 7 Tablet for $199 as well. Just asking!

Thx
