What if no 3D??

all everyone keeps talking about is the 3D capabilties of the new EVO.what if it didn't have 3D? would everyone still be so hyped up over this phone? i think even without 3D the specs are bad ass. 1.2 dual core processor...love it. also a dedicated camera button.ive been wanting that forever. im really curious of how good the qhd display is going to look compared to the OG EVO.

I could really care less about 3D capabilities. I am just psyched about the specs. Has everything I wanted:

1+ Ghz dual core (from qualcomm, no less!)
1 gig of ram
lots of internal memory (I'm coming from a Desire, so this is a lot to me lol)
Great screen
Camera button
Front camera
Looks awesome too (to my tastes)
HDMI (charges from it too)
2 speakers (one front, one back)
Noise cancelling mic
I could go on....

And one of the best things about it? It's not on ATT lol

Seriously though, this phone blows away the competition, the 3D is just a perk. I care about specs and performance (and seeing from hands on demo, its pretty damn fast, even though the phone isn't completed).

I am super excited for this phone, can't wait!

The Evo 3D is still a very capable phone without 3D.

However, with 3D, it certainly becomes a more interesting product, and is sure to get lots of attention from the public and press this summer.

The Evo was the phone that changed everything for Sprint. They finally netted more subscribers rather than being in a deficit. The Evo 3D will have an even more significant impact.

3D isn't at all what has me excited. It's literally everything else about the phone that does. Some key tings that I will be looking for are:
1. Camera quality (both stills and video) as the OG EVO is a bit lacking
2. STOCK Battery life (yes I can root + custom ROM, and will, but should we HAVE to?)
3. Some real benchmarks that are properly optimised
4. Gaming (not a huge gamer, but I think I would like to not completely shut myself out from the possibility of playing graphics intense games in the future)
5. Sprint's 4G! I know this isn't really about the phone, but what is Sprint doing to broaden their 4G market? I'd love to know. And if there is the rumored LTE switch, what exactly does that mean for current customers (along with prospective 3D customers)?

The 3D will wind up like the EPIC fail. I bet the sales of the 3D won't even come close to the EVO.

Lol, worked with the iphone. The evo wass pretty much the most popular phone of the year last year. Plus just because you don't not like it doesn't mean millions of other people won't.

If there was no 3D an Evo2 would just be another dual core phone among many.

By having 3D it opens new content potential from Youtube, Blockbuster and Netflix, in addition to having a marketable advantage in a market flooded with also-ran android devices.

And your prediction is bordering on trolling. I think it's safe to say that the Evo3D will be one the best selling phones on any carrier. The lines and demand will most likely outdo last years Evo by a hefty margin.

I would honestly be just as excited. While I'm sure I'll use/try out the 3D here and there, it's about the least important "upgrade" from the original Evo for me.

I also think the Evo 3D will sell very well. As popular as the Evo was, it was plagued by shortages, so we'll never know what its true potential was. The Evo 3D will outsell the Evo (my prediction with no fanboyism attached) assuming there's no limits on production.

I like the dedicated shutter button, but I hope the camera sensors are much improved over the current Evo's camera sensor. Please no one respond to this with the megapixel count. Half press on shutter button to focus is a HUGE improvement.

My favorite improvement is the pixel density. Hoping that the UI is silky smooth as well (true 60fps).

I fully accept that the 3D is for marketing and as a means of standing out from the pack. I no, the 3D isn't going to be make or break feature for me.

I'm waiting for reviews of the battery life and camera before I take the plunge, but this is the only phone that is making me salivate. I have the Evo now, but it's already getting ready for the pasture.

The 3D isn't the selling point for me, the overall spec is. I'd be interested in this phone regardless of the 3D (so I will have a good look at the Pyramid too)

I am interested to know how the 3D screen appears when not using 3D, ie does the screen look at good (better?) than my current Desire? I don't want to lose screen definition due to the 3D effect. I can't pretend I'm not intrigued about taking 3D photos and videos, even if I only ever view them on my phone.

Can you export a 3D photo as a 2D image I wonder? If this phone does come my way I think a 16Gb fast class card is a definite!

3D is significant differentiating factor for those who are in new techs. 3D in general is on increase:

- 3D TVs are crowding shops
- 3D Blue Rays readily available
- 3D TV channels popping out (including X-rated which are pivotal :))
- 3D pictures can be taken with many new digital cameras using simulated
rendering (in 3D camera is moved slowly and takes a number or pics.
From them the best fitting 3D is made).
- 3D camcorders are showing up, either with genuine dual recording
system or with lens attachement which produces 2 pics fro 3D).
- 3D YouTube is available

3D mobile is thus a natural complement to all the above. It does not require glasses and can be fun for watching 3D content. For those who accept 3D with glasses, mobile 3D adds possibility of watching own-produced content using device which is (a) inexpensive comparing to 3D camcorder (b) available anywhere & anytime.

I would actually be more excited for the phone if it didn't have 3D. I have zero interest in 3D, and even less interest in paying an extra $50-100 or whatever for a feature I won't use. I'd much rather the space used for the extra camera be filled with a slightly larger battery instead. That said, everything else about the phone is exactly what I was hoping the Evo 2 would be, so I'll probably get it anyway.

Where do you get these figures? Nobody knows what the MSRP of the phone will be yet. How do we know it won't cost exactly the same as the EVO (or any other current gen high end phone)?

...EVO 3D has bigger battery than EVO 4G. 3D is mainly for pictures, videos, and gaming (if you choose to use it). No one knows how much it will cost yet. Everything on the EVO 3D is better than 4G, if it turns out to be the same price, what else are you going to complain about?

To be fair I don'tt really read that as a complaint. After all, he did say he would probably get the device anyhow. What I think he meant was that he would have chosen a bigger battery still (even bigger than 1700mah) and given up the 3D features. FWIW, I would have too, though it certainly isn't a deal breaker.

I would also prefer no 3D, keep the battery size at 1730 mah remove the second 5mp camera from the back and slide the battery up and keep our famous Kick Stand!!! change the single 5mp camera back to a 8 or upgrade to 10 (depending on cost) and have a CMOS sensor which Evo 4G doesn't have and explains why some other 5mp camera have better pic than the Evo 4G 8mp camera (HTC was aware of that and added a CMOS sensor to Evo 3D) Keep upgrade in memory, screen res, dual speaker and 1.2 dual core!

No thanks. Give me better optics and then maybe I'll ask for more pixels.

That's why I said include the CMOS sensor. CMOS lenses are designed to provide optimal image performance for a variety of applications using CMOS imaging sensors. More pixel with a better (actually added because Evo 4G doesn't have one) sensor!

From previous posts I've gathered that improved optics are of greater importance, but I also read somewhere that it's also possible that the 2 cameras can combine data to produce an image equivalent to a camera with a higher pixel count. I know law enforcement can take several frames of a poor quality image and combine them to achieve a higher quality image. Does anyone think that this would be too process intensive for a phone? I figure that even if they didn't provide this type of capability that some talented developer might well provide that capability through the android market sometime in the future :) ...how might the fusion of 2 offset images into one 2d image improve the quality given the same old optics?

You may be refering to #'s 1 & 2, and if this could happen, it would be nice! Like you said would it be to process intensive for a phone? But if it can't happen, HTC has added a CMOS sensor (better quality pics) to the 5mp, which they should of done with the Evo 4G

I think it is time to kick things up a notch though. I predicted EVO 3D would have some folks asking themselves what the hell? I think will move into a next phase called industry first.

I will have to correct myself on a earlier post about EVO 3D and 10mp camera. I don't know if it is going to be a correction, but clarification. I will go into that later.

First:
1) HTC EVO 3D will isolate twin cameras to produce the firsts 180 degree panoramic photo at 5mp resolution. (Option will be in sense UI)
2) HTC EVO will produce the first ever 10mp photo on cell phone by using what is called paralax photo capture (each camera will capture an image and over lay it to produce 10mp photo) (Once again tap on 10mp photo)
3) Light sampling will be independent of each CMOS sensor to produce what will be close to night vision capture (Night Owl)
4) EVO 3D Hollywood, EVO 3D is only device on the market with next generation Qualcomm processor's with built in DRM. EVO 3D will support all digital streaming content (Netflix, Hulu, and other independent sites with DRM subscriptions.)
5) YouTube 3D part of the EVO 3D Hollywood pack.
6) True 4G, EVO 3D will be the industry first (LTE+WimaX) device. Sprint has plans for all 4G devices to be backwards compatible and be able to support (Wimax+LTE) (Shift/Epic/EVO/etc.)
7) Will be the first none Nexus device to launch with Google 2.3.3 Gingerbread.
8) Worlds first qHD 3D display on a 4.3in screen (Pixel Density Classified)
9) Industry first dual channel 1gig DDRRAM and with active 4gig tri-channel ROM (5gig total Ram with unlimited ROM as SDcard will act as more like a HD drive)
10) That is just a few of the industry first that will be presented on EVO 3D launch.
There will be no thunder stolen, no spot light stolen, and no industry first stolen from HTC EVO 3D gram for gram this is undisputed superphone.

A lot of that has been less than reliable.

The pixel density can found by straightforward calculation, as novox77 illustrated.

If there's a snowball's chance this phone will have WiMAX and LTE, it will make news, it will show up in the FCC submittal.

And it's been claimed alternately that there are two sensors, then one.
