What is Flash

Hello everyone, I know I am going to sound like a right fool but what exactly is Flash? I am not a tech person at all so most of the stuff I have read on here goes way over my head!! I have had a desire for a few months am very impressed with it. Its currently running the 2.2 version of Android but I have seen Flash Player 10.1 in the Android Market and have just downloaded it. Did I need to do this as or is it already installed on my phone? I havent noticed anything differnt other than I now have less internal storage space than I did prior to downloading!!

Easiest way of explaining it is without it you can't watch BBC iPlayer - it's an application that allows video/audio to be viewed

Flash is an internet platform that allows people to embed animation, streaming and interactive elements into web-pages. Quite a lot of websites use Flash to embed video and/or audio streams (BBC, YouTube etc.).

Froyo (Android 2.2) comes with a version of Flash 10.1 which is almost completely up-to-date but there has been a more recent release of the platform which has various security-fixes in it. That is what you've downloaded.

The problem is that the one in Froyo is held in ROM but if you download it it has to be held in RAM (not sure if you can shift it to SD card). So, you have the most secure, up-to-date version which is good but at the trade-off is that you've had to sacrifice a lot of memory to do it.

Whether the extra security is worth the memory is up to you to decide - I think most people decide "no" but if you do remove the update don't blame me if your phone gets hacked.

Hope this helped.

Aaaa aaaa.

I know it's not Flash, hence the bit of writing above the picture ;)

(Should've really edited the picture with a speech bubble!!)

So did i ,space is getting to be a real limitation ,move to SD not as useful as i thought ,some apps still leave a large file on the RAM.
My old Winmo could have apps installed on phone memory ,preinstalled flash memory or the optional card and worked seamlessly
