Root what is the highest overclock speed on evo?

dan330

Extreme Android User
hi all..

my evo is 3 weeks old.. ver 003.
running Myn RLS5 beta and Netarchy-Toastmod 4.3..

the fastest that I can get my cpu speed is 1190mhz. anything higher and it will freeze then reboot.

what is the highest stable clock speed out there?
what ver is your evo?
what ROM and Kernel?

thanks

I have almost the exact same setup as you. hw version 0003 (from June, though, so...), Myn's Warm RLS5 beta with NA 4.3 more aggressive HAVS.

I can get it as high as 1190, but I always keep it at 1152. I see no major difference between the two, other than slightly less battery life with 1190, so...

I've heard some people can get it as high as 1228. I'm not one of them.

yeah.. I have the more aggressive havs too

I actually have setcpu with 2 profiles:
screen off: 384 to 128mhz
sreen on: 614 to 128mhz

I dont need the speed for normal everyday use... to help save on battery too.

but can jump it up to 1190.. if i play some bigger games.

Profiles with HAVS? What governor are you using, just out curiosity?

Also, a word of warning to whoever reads this thread. Those of us who test the max overclock speed with setcpu always uncheck "set at boot" before doing so. If you overclock too high, cause a freeze/reboot, and don't uncheck that options, you will end up in a bootloop more than likely.

govenor???? dont use any....
unless the Myn's ROM has one installed or the Netarchy-Toast 4.3 has it in there.

i just set the setcpu speeds and that is it.

You have to be using a governor. It's what determines what to set your cpu frequency at under certain conditions (e.g. load). I'm not sure what you're using to overclock, but there are a few ways to determine which one you're using. In setcpu, on the main screen, there is a dropdown box right next to where it says "Scaling". If you didn't change anything from netarchy 4.3 default, I would guess you have it set to Conservative.

as i was saying... i am using Netarchy-Toastmod 4.3..
it does give me some extra "scaling"

I use "smartass".. testing that out...
i also use "conservative" sometimes.

is that what you are asking

Yep, sorry, I forgot setcpu doesn't refer to it as a governor, so if you've never heard that term before...

Anyway, typically, it's not a good idea to use setcpu profiles with smartass. Smartass is designed to automatically set a much lower max frequency when the screen is off, and to scale based on load, battery life, etc. Profiles could cause potential conflicts. At best, they just aren't really necessary. Some say HAVS in general don't play nice with profiles (regardless of governor choice). I'm not convinced that's the case, just yet.

i can unplug at before bed.. at 1am.. buy 7 am .. i have only lost 3-4% when it starts out in the 90%. when it is in under 80%..i might lose 1-2%.

Jan 1, saturday... I was home and had no calls. I lost less than 10% for 12 hours!!! NO usage at all...except to turn on to check out battery.

That's pretty good. I'm thinking of using conservative for a while to see how it does. It used to lag the past couple times I tried it, but it seems to get better battery life.

new timat kernal. For android 4.0+ for evo allows for 1228 stable. Freeze at 1267, been testing two days now. No crash at 1228

Welcome to the forums!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

1228 can be stable for some but others, you will get bootlooped. Most say the highest stable frequency is 1190 although different kernels will have different stability. BTW, I don't believe that the Evo 4G frequency will get up to 1267, at least I haven't seen this but then again, I know my phone will only get to max frequency of 1190 without getting bootlooped so I only scale up to 1190 max;)

My phone has no problems maxing out the AnthraX kernel.

1228MHz I believe?

I think Aggressive freedom goes higher, might have to check that out and see wehre this baby tops out.

The highest frequency I've seen was 1228 but it doesn't really matter for me, like I said 1190 is the max I can go:cool:

i am on MikG 3.0.... with Aggresive Freedom. it only goes up to 1228. but is not stable. it reboots after a few seconds. it is stable at 1190

on ICS 4.0.3 i have it set to smartass and clocked to 1,152 mhz
thats the best spot i can use with speed and battery... if i take it to 1,200mhz or higher it freezes and reboots

Running a hardware version 4
Tiamat evo 410 sbc kernel with decks gingerbread 1.3

using the advanced cm7 menu I have options to overclock to 1267 It will run that but reboot on first heavy load.
I have run 1228 for extended periods but found that with multiple apps open(gps navigation, texting, and phone call come in)
it rebooted.
so I run at 1190 full time with great results.

Doh! After checking this thread on my phone it rebooted for the first time since I had it set that high. Back down to my normal 1113 for me :)

I guess I'm in the minority, but I will usually underclock my max speed down to 768 MHz. Is there any reason why you guys are ramping it up? Games and such? Do you notice a huge speed increase from leaving it at stock 998 MHz? I have just played around with overclocking slightly. Probably the thing I have done the least as a root user. I guess I'm always afraid that it's going to burn through battery quicker than I'd like, or worse, maybe wear out my CPU quicker than it would if I were to leave it stock.

Anybody see any significant benefit?

I use the interactiveX governor so it only goes up to that 1150, 1190 frequency when it needs to. I usually get great battery life using interactiveX for sense or smartass v2 for AOSP kernels
