I use now launcher Pro but i don't know if i will keep using it.

The only real reasons of using launcher pro (for me, of course) are the custom widgets.
I love them!

But.... I have been using ADW for a long time and now i installed LP.... and since then i saw my first random shutdown!!
For many it can be annoying, but for me it's more than that, because i rely on the clock alarm and you know that clock alarms don't work with the phone off (................................. i will never understand why i can do that with my nokia 1100 and not with my capti....................................)

So, if it turns off, i'm late to work haha

LP is more customizable (it has more options) for example multiple docks and the nice nice nice custom widgets. I'm seeing random shutdowns.

ADW is a little less customizable but the customizable settings are nicer to set (for example, i can add a new homescreen before or after the ones i have, i can SWITCH homescreens, etc) the LP has this functionalities, but harder to set (nothing really important). And for last, it's a little faster.

In few words: try the LP, if it's slow for you or you have random shutdowns, try the ADW.

I'm going back to the ADW but first i will research A LOT about widgets like the LP has. I want a facebook widget like that, it's awesome!

Customization - CapFAQ

From the FAQ:

The "launcher" in Android is the user interface app that you're using when your phone boots up. The launcher handles how the "home" screen is presented to you. The launcher controls the dock, the home screens and their icons, and so on. On the Captivate, Samsung replaced the standard Android launcher with their own, dubbed Touchwiz. Just as Samsung replaced the launcher, in Android you are not restricted to the one preset by Samsung either. Many people replace the stock launcher with an alternative in order to obtain a different look or get additional features. There are several popular launchers available in the Marketplace. These include LauncherPro and ADW. You can then use a tool like Home Switcher to set which one is the default, as well as manually launch any other launcher you might have installed.

I used ADW for a month and now bough Launcher pro Plus. Seriosly I didnt find much difference between the two. The only good thing abt ADW is various themes...which i didnt find in LP...

I have both LP+ and ADW on my phone. I usually have different themes for each launcher and I switch between them. Although I have notice for the past month I've been solely using LP. I really do like the Sense like widgets for sms and fb and the dock gesture swipe actions.Someone brought this up earlier and I do think that my stock and ADW launchers are ruining in the background. They don't take up much resources but the widgets I have in them do. These are widgets on stock or ADW that are not being used on LP. I see that they are running in the background.

I've always preferred ADW over Launcher Pro

And TouchWiz has that polish, so I use it... but ADW is very similar as far as backend-options go.

The only time I use TouchWiz is when I flash my phone back to stock, preparing to flash something else to the phone.

I've been running LauncherPro Plus practically since day 1 of ownership and I have yet to experience random shut downs. I will admit that LauncherPro on stock firmware was a little slow for me, but that has been a non-issue for awhile now since LauncherPro on custom-build 2.1 with Voodoo OR 2.2 has been blazing fast.

Haven't tried ADW yet, and I don't think I plan to since LPP seems to do the trick for me!

tried it...Looks shitty as compared to ADW or LP....
Tried ADW and LP for a while too. They were okay, but actually went back to touchwiz eventually. Zeam is simple and fast, and has the additional icons I wanted in the bottom dock to keep the home screen clean. Good for a quick, minimalistic setup. Not looking for bells and whistles... ;)

I like ADW and LauncherPro, but my problem with any launcher I've tried is that I get a strange lag when I move a folder/widget after I release them to "drop" them onto my homescreen. I'll move an object and take my finger off the screen and the object hovers there for a bit before finally snapping to the screen. It's really annoying. And yes, I have tried checking with a task manager to make sure the other launchers aren't running in the background and I've always removed widgets from my other launchers before using a different one.

The lag in general with this phone has become more noticeable as I try to do other regular tasks too. Froyo can't come soon enough. I would root the phone and try lag fixes/custom roms, but I don't want to take on the associated risks with it.

I've been using Zeam as my default for a while now. I like it because it's fast, clean, and runs smoothly.

The other launchers I've tried (launcher pro, ahome, open home, live home, panda home, dxtop) are too laggy and have a bunch of features that I would never use.

I installed Launcher Pro and ADW.Launcher. I believe both of them are faster than the default launcher. Now to figure out how to apply the theme I downloaded. :)

LP, paid version. I've had ADW installed a few times, I think some of the themes are well done, but I keep coming back to LP (and finally upgraded it).

Now that I've got my LP widgets skinned, I *really* love it (the default design on the LP widgets is ug-ly).

My reason for LP, and some of these may be available on other launchers, so YMMV:

Fast
Landscape for home
Scrolling dock (15 app locations)
Simple to customize dock (just load a PNG file)
Nice widgets (especially signal23 skinned)
Slick/easy home screen selection (via home or pinch/preview)
Dock notification for gmail/sms/phone
Dock gestures

Ive used lp for months, liked it. Recently found 91pandahome2. This is the best launcher by far. So many things to customize. Check it out asap. Ps its free. Gotts love android.

Used paid lp for about 2 months, got 91pandahome2 this launcher is straight crazy lots and lots of custom options. Super fast.

As someone with a stock phone, I liked Touch Wiz ... or so I thought. In a week or so, I wound up installing Home Switcher, Launcher Pro, and ADW. I didn't love ADW after just a few minutes, uninstalled, and tried Launcher Pro. In a day I paid for the Plus version, and I've been with it since.

I LOVE that you can hide widgets that can incur fees (and/or just stock ones you won't use). I love the swipe dock gestures, and dock notifications. I don't really care about the orientation or a few minor things ... but in general, I really like it.

Going back to Touch Wiz, my biggest pet peeve is the lack of customizing the apps and dock. I haven't really noticed a speed difference, or major issues like shutting down.

you can change the icons in the dock with tw. you need to go to your app drawer and select customizable grid or whatever its called, then you can drag down any app you want

Yeah, I meant vs LPP ... no notifications or swipe gesture popup, both which I love about the dock in LPP, plus I like the multiple docks.

Touchwiz for me. Tried LauncherProPlus for a little bit. Never tried ADW Launcher.

Is there a way to switch easily between TW and LPP?? I never could figure that out.

Try Go launcher, it's quite nice. Has some cool features like uninstall ability *from* the app drawer, and recently used apps. I didn't really like LauncherPro because the app drawer has no indicator that shows you where you are in the list.

I liked ADW, but it was too slow. Touchwiz is gone in my new cognition rom, so I'll be sticking with GoLauncher for now.

Use the app, Home Switcher if you want to switch your Launchers around, and test them.

ive been using GoLauncher for awhile now also, its my favorite. i never was that big of a fan of launcher pro but this is better. i also use GoSMS, its similar to handcent but better also
