What number is in the middle 1 and three?

pjcard

Lurker
That's what I was asked on registering, does it make sense to anyone else? I couldn't answer it - perhaps I'm not human (or just thick!).

Well, that's not as bad as what it asked me.
It asked what firmware number Android is on.
I almost said screw it. I wasn't going to register.
Questions like that are just too over the top.

Questions like that are designed to be answerable only by humans. Sorry it was such a huge inconvenience, but I'm afraid that's preferable to AF being swamped by spambots. The safest alternative would be to vet every new registration manually, but the sheer number of new members daily precludes that.

We get 1200 registrations a day right now, no thanks!

There's no need for the question to be difficult, ambiguous or broken. Asking the current firmware is just silly, esp. when a lot of your visitors will presumably be new to android and see this as being elitist (i.e., prove your android knowledge) or in the case of the one that I got that the site is poorly maintained (obviously it's not, but I almost didn't get to see that).

What's difficult for a machine != what's difficult for a human. I suggest whoever put in that mechanism do a little more research into appropriate questions.

edit: Also, what is this doing for non-native english speakers? Must be even worse!

Unless Rob or Shivers added then removed questions without me knowing, they have been the same for a couple years now.

What are the white fluffy things in the sky?
The word green has how many letters?
What number is in the middle (of, just fixed, thanks) 1 and three?
What does the U in U.S.A. stand for?
What is the biggest Search Engine in the World?

..that's all we've used.

Are you serious? It seriously asked me the firmware question for android.
Wish I would have taken a screenshot.

Anyway, looks to be the problem's solved, so :)
