my wife drank caster oil to put herself in labor. its a laxative and you'll be cleaning yourself out for a few days if not a week if you drink it ;)

I'm not a fan of medicines for colds etc. The stuff you get on the shelves doesn't really cure, it just masks the symptoms so you're putting all sorts of unnatural chemicals in your body and they're not really doing anything to get rid of the problem.

I've found tonnes of fruit and veg, loads of water and a couple of decent nights sleep sort me out when I'm feeling poorly.

Mine did as well. It works. Cleans you out of all sorts of things :p
The problem is, it is technically a poison. Be careful with it.

I did once have a wicked cold/flu that kept me out for a week. The only thing that worked was large amounts of fiber. I was in my early twenties, and realized after a week that I hadn't moved my bowels the whole time. So I had someone pick up some metamucil for me, took a bunch, and after getting cleared out I got better fast.
That is when I realized how important it is to "keep all things moving". Medical schooling has only driven that home.

If you have access to suction, a 12fr catheter back through each nare all the way to the nasopharynx will clean out the thickest and most stubborn plugged nose. Once you have a clear path through, the neti can keep you clear if used properly.
Sounds horrible, but if done properly the worst it will do is make you sneeze, and holy cow, you know those stuffed noses you just can't break through? This is better than... than... Oh, I can't think of an appropriate and family friendly comparison at the moment, but you get the idea ;)

I recently suffered from the Flu and the way I recovered so fast was to get plenty of rest, all i did was lay around and sleep saturday and sunday and it worked well for me as I was feeling well enough to attend classes Monday. I know I just kept going to bed early and resting, plus on a pretty hardcore regiment of over the counter medicine. :p

I have always done the hot toddy thing with theraflu 1 shot of whiskey and 1-2 tablespoons of honey all mixed together right before bed 2 to 3 nights in a row. You will have to change the sheets in the morning due to sweating and I have never had to take time off from work using this method. Just remember everything reacts with everybody differently!

LOL! It sure does it make you sweat for some reason I don't know if it's a combination or what but it works! :):D

Booze will help put you on another plane during the duration, which may feel like relief. I've done it. It's not good at all for overall health though.

Back when I had lots of valuable audio and video tape that I wanted to preserve well, I started using a humidifier to keep the humidity at a constant level year 'round. I found that keeping the recommended 50% humidity was a bit much for the humans (and made the windows sweat something awful). But cranking up the humidity above 40% made me a lot more comfortable when I got a respiratory bug. Between drinking lots of fluids and breathing humid air I found that was most of the battle. Now recent studies show that the flu virus "likes" a dry climate. So there's a scientific basis for it now.

mind over matter......works every time:)

I read somewhere a clinical proof that mental attitude affects the immune system i.e. depressed people have less effective immune systems. So...

I use telekinesis to tell my kick-ass antibody troops to man up and kick ass.

When friends, family, or colleagues around me come down with some bug, I determine that I AM NOT GOING TO BE A VICTIM. I am hardly ever sick with contagious bugs.

Similarly, if I feel the beginning symptoms of an approaching illness, such as a tickly throat or chest I tell myself that I'm not going to succumb, and imagine my warrior antibodies kicking viral ass, and the infection usually gives up and dies at the initial stages. :)

Yeah I was going to say that just does not sound right. I'm glad you said it.I do not think I will be trying that suggestion at all. For me the best remedy was sleep.and that is why thera flu worked so well. I got a good night's test after a few days and I was right as rain

hey guys,

so it would seem that i came down with a cold last night. i could not sleep and everything was plugged up. Not much coughing yet. it got so bad that i had to find a late night pharmacy and i ended up buying me some Thera flu........man that thing just knocked me right out.

so my friend also mentions of trying a hot toddy next time around. it is basically a hot lemonade or lemon ice tea(heated) with a shot of whiskey. For my friend he says that this knocks him right out. i do not see it fixing my nasal passages so i doubt that it would work.

as of right now my suggestion would be thera flu.....what is yours?

Just got over it, generic day quill and night quill helped me.

On a side note, I think going to my chiropractor regularly helps keep me from getting sick in the first place. I very rarely get sick and when I do it's mild. I probably haven't had the flu for 10 years or more.

for me chiropractors never helped anything. maybe it is just my mind set. but a few years back i fell and injured my back. i tried a lot of chiropractors and they could not make the back pain go away. they had me do some stretches, put me in some contraptions, and even used electrical message therapy to avail.

i eventually found a message therapist and boom.......all cured.
