What Tasker profiles is everyone using?? (This thread is NOT for requesting help with profiles)

To add the phone icon to your Notification Bar, you will need to create 2 profiles.

First profile creates the icon and notification when you start your phone.

The profile is Event > System > Device boot.
Task is Alert > Notify, in Title say Phone or whatever you want, select an icon, probably the phone icon, be sure to check Permanent.

The second profile is Event > UI > Notification Click, in the Title line put the title of the notification you used (Phone) it is case sensitive so be sure it is right.
The task is App > Load App, select your Phone app in the list.

Now when you start your phone (then waiting for Tasker to start) an icon will be there. You could also go back into Tasker after you applied the changes and go in the first profile and hit Test, that should start it for you right away.

Anyone know how to set the wallpaper to randomly change between pics located in a particular folder?

There is an example of this on the Tasker wiki http://tasker.wikidot.com/randomwallpaper

The way that they have it working is having their pics named wallpaper1.jpg, wallpaper2.jpg, wallpaper3.jpg, etc. then they use Variable Randomize to get a random number and set the background using that number (Set Wallpaper > wallpaper%RANDOMWALL.jpg

I haven't seen any other way to do it with differently name images. That doesn't mean a way doesn't exist, I just haven't seen one...yet ;)

Thanks Rob,

I figured out the first profile just by playing with tasker but I would never had figured out the second profile.

  • Battery Level : Adjusts random settings, depending on my battery level.
  • Block Calls : When certain numbers call, tasker will answer\end the call (So it will stop ringing, and they won't get to my voicemail)
  • Block Work Calls : When my work calls me (to ask if I can come in), I let it ring for 5 seconds before hanging up (5 seconds, so I have time to decide if I want to answer - and it does not send the call to voicemail).
  • Change Wallpaper Based on Weather : Cool new profile I made today. It checks Accuweather, and when it sees certain keywords ("Rain" "Cloudy" "Sunny" "Clear") it will change my wallpaper, accordingly.
  • Church : Silences my phone, makes my display not time-out, and opens my Bible app -- (Based on calendar events)
  • School : Silences my phone during school (Based on calendar events)
  • Find Phone (GPS) : When I text my phone a keyword, it will respond with the GPS coordinates, battery level, etc.
  • Find Phone (GPS) P2 : When I text my phone another keyword (when my phone is stolen), it will lock the phone, will end any current calls, and will also leave the GPS on (so I can keep tracking it).
  • Find Phone (Ring) : This is for when I lose my phone at home. I text it, it will play a ringtone.
  • Face Down Silent : This is for the "Find Phone (Ring)" profile. When I find the phone, I just flip it over to turn off the ringtone\song
  • GPS Turned On : Turns on the GPS when certain apps are opened
  • Incoming Call Brightness : Turns my brightness to MAX, for 15 seconds. (Pointless)
  • Charging : Random settings for when I am charging my phone
  • Wifi Starter\Stopper : Two profiles that will turn on\of and connect wifi, accordingly (by determining my location via my network connection\location) (this has been combined with my "Home" profile)

Added on 04/09/11

  • Work : When Tasker sees that my calendar says I am at work (this is easy to do because I have a part-time job, so I always post my shifts on my calendar), it will put my phone on vibrate - and force WiFi off, and will also lock my screen.

Added on 04/13/11

  • Home : When I am home (It determines this by using my location, via the network connection) it will turn my volumes up. After 11pm, when the home profile is active, it will turn my phone to vibrate. [new: it also turns on my WiFi] [new:new: it now activates Browsix and Remote Notifier for Android]
  • Change Wallpaper - Timed : I have a set of 5 wallpapers (they are the same wallpapers, just different color), and they change\alternate every 20 minutes.
  • Alarm : I have uninstalled Gentle Alarm, and replaced it with Tasker. Self explanatory profile. (*Altered this profile, so that it will only trigger if the phone is charging (I periodically will get up before the alarm will go off, and unplug the phone - forgetting that the alarm is still set*) (Rather dodgy when it came to actually triggering - missed a class due to the alarm\profile not sounding\activating. I am now using the stock HTC clock\alarm app)
  • Silent Boot : This profile will silence my phone prior to turning off or restarting, which then silences the annoyingly loud boot-animation.

Added on 04/14/11

  • Reminder - Trash : At 9pm every Wednesday night(repeating every 15 minutes) IF my "Home" profile is active, I get a pop-up reminding me to take out the trash. The pop-up also gives me an option to end the reminders if I have taken the trash out.
  • Airplane Mode : If my cell signal drops too low, airplane mode will be triggered. Every 7 minutes, the profile will stop - if there is still low signal, the profile will be reactivated. (I am having a hard time getting this to work... It seems to randomly activate, even though my signal-strength variable context, is set to only activate when my signal drops below 25% - I will have a few bars of 4G, and this profile will activate)
  • Headset : I finally got around to making this basic profile, that will open a menu containing Amazon MP3 (I have my music in the cloud) and Pandora, whenever I connect a headset.

Added on 04/15/11

  • Applications - Games : When I launch any\all games, my media volume is set to 4 (what I almost ALWAYS set it to) (got rather annoying, and wasn't very useful)
  • Applications - Games Night : When I launch any\all games between 11pm and 9am, the media volume is 0
  • Applications - Music : When I launch any\all music playing applications, the media volume sets itself to 12
  • Applications - Video : When I launch any\all video playing applications, the media volume sets itself to 9 - and autobrightness is forced.
  • Charging - Home Night : When charging my phone at home (determined by "cell near"), from 12:30am-8:30am (basically when I am sleeping): all sounds are silenced, brightness is brought down, and auto-rotation is turned off (If I look at my phone while in bed, and while it's charging, the screen-rotation is always wacky)
  • Charging - Not Home : When I am charging my phone NOT at home (determined by invert of "cell near"), all of my volumes are turned up (If I am not charging my phone at home, it will usually be charging somewhere AWAY from me - so I need the volumes up)
  • Grandparent's : When I am at one of my grandparent's house (determined by "cell near"), the phone connects to their WiFi, and my ringer/notification/media volumes gets adjusted.
  • Grandparent's Night : Same as above, just the volumes are on silent\vibrate
  • Grandparent's (2) : When I am at my other grandparent's house (determined by "cell near"), the phone connects to their WiFi, and my ringer/notification/media volumes gets adjusted.
  • Grandparent's Night (2) : Same as above, just the volumes are on silent\vibrate.

Added on 04/28/11

  • Android Notifier : When my "Home" profile is active, Tasker will enable the Remote Notifier for Android service. Remote Notifier for Android, simply sends notifications to your computer, when you have an incoming call, SMS, MMS, or when your battery is low, etc.
  • DropBox Sync : I have Tasker and Dropbox Sync for Tasker/Locale setup so I can backup certain files on my SD Card, with Dropbox, at a specific time. I am currently working on a way to get this Dropbox plugin to allow me to upload a AutoHotKey script to Dropbox, where AutoHotKey on my computer will be able to then read\activate the script, which will pause iTunes when I have an incoming call).

Added on 05/03/11

  • Disneyland : When I am at Disneyland (Based on calendar event - currently working on getting the "cell near" info setup, which will take quite a while due to the massive size of the park), forces Wifi off, GPS off, all plugins off (in case another task has them on, or if they are left on accidentally), turns off mobile data (trying to get this to only happen when the display is off), and also drops the display timeout to 12 seconds. I am currently thinking of other battery-saving settings that I can have this profile change. Suggestions?
Added on 05/04/11

  • Flashlight On : When I flick my phone\wrist to the right (holding the phone at an unusual angle), the HTC Flashlight will open and turn on.
  • Flashlight Off : When I flick my phone\wrist to the left (holding the phone at an unusual angle), the flashlight will turn off and close.

I love Tasker.

...I was bored :D

Already had the rest set up, just added this task.

I have a question. When I am in my car I am always listening to Slacker, will tasker mute or pause Slacker while it reads my text? If not, could I use the notification stream to do this. TYIA

Is there a way to back up your Tasker profiles? I've had to reset my phone and lost all my profiles so thought I'd ask!

I sent it up just as you have it but i have two problems. One when I got a text it didn't read it or I didn't hear it because I was playing music through my bluetooth(headset) and also, after the "I'm driving" text was sent to the last text, the message was sent three more times. How do I stop it from repeating.

I'm not sure about the repeating issue, but for the announcement through your earpiece, if you will always be using that while driving, you would change the Stream type to Call not Media.

However if you will be only sometimes using it, then you will want to have 2 Say commands and check the If box at the bottom and use the bluetooth variable and say on in one of them and off in the other with the respective stream selected.

Ex: 1. Say, Text: Please call me, Stream: Call, If %BLUE matches on.
2. Say, Text: Please call me, Stream: Media, If %BLUE matches off.

I had the same problem with hearing it. What I did was add "media volume: 2" before the "say" task, then change the stream for the "say" task to notification, then add "media volume: 15" after the "say" task. By doing I can now hear the text while it is being read.

I haven't had a problem with the message sending repeatedly, so IDK about that one.

Stuarta thanks for the help. I must have found it in my early Tasker days as, on a hunch, I checked the Restore function and have restored some of my lost profiles. Thanks again. It's not till you've lost them that you realise how much you rely on some of those profiles.

Others have already made a few answers to this, I'm just going to condense it for anyone else you might want to know (It's pretty complicated now, and I'm not 100% sure that Task 7 will work correctly, so cross your fingers!).

If you usually stream music through your phone, use this setup:

Context:
1) +>Event>Received Text (Type = Any, Sender = leave blank, Content = leave blank)>Done

Task
1) +>Phone>Send SMS (Number = %SMSRF, Message = I'm driving please call me)>Done
2) +>Audio>In Call Volume (Level=Whatever sounds best when you test it)>Done
3) +>Audio>Notification Volume (Level=Whatever sounds best when you test it)>Done
4) +>Audio>Media Volume (Level= 0)>Done
5) +>Tasker>Wait (1 Second)>Done
6) +>Misc>Say (Text = SMS from %SMSRF: %SMSRB, Engine = eng-USA, Stream = Call, Continue Task Immediately = UNchecked), If %BLUE matches ON> Done
7) +>Misc>Say (Text = SMS from %SMSRF: %SMSRB, Engine = eng-USA, Stream = Notification, Continue Task Immediately = UNchecked), If %BLUE matches OFF> Done
8) +>Tasker>Wait (2 seconds)>Done
9) +>Audio>Media Volume (Level=Whatever you want it to be when you play your music)>Done
10) +>Audio>In Call Volume (Level=Whatever level you want it to be normally)>Done
11) +>Audio>Notification Volume (Level=Whatever level you want it to be normally)>Done

Has anyone else had profiles decide to not work after working perfectly fine? I have a particular profile for my games that sets my media volume up, and turns the screen brighter whenever I open certain games, then sets media back down to 2 and brightness to 31 when I'm done. Everything worked until I rebooted my phone, and now, the profile doesn't do anything. It's on, it should be working, but it isn't, and I don't have anything else running that should conflict. Except maybe my screen task, which I only have because my X keeps insisting on turning my brightness up for no reason (even with auto unchecked).

I have been noticing this lately... My "home" profile has been acting up.
It will activate, and everything will adjust as it's suppose to, but then the changes will begin to "undo" (i.e. WiFi will turn off), while the profile is still showing as active (no other profile is active).

My Home (Cell Near) profile is acting up too. Cell Near A will trigger, but it won't trigger my WiFi A like it used to; it seems to wait a ridiculous amount of time before doing so, and then it'll drop it again, even when I'm practically standing next to the router. My X is doing stupid things already (like forgetting settings everytime I reboot), and this is just adding to my frustration. :(

EDIT: looking at the Tasker Google Groups, someone else was having problems with profiles not activating after the update. Apparently, the only suggestions are:

reboot

reinstall Tasker over current

Backup everything, delete, then reinstall Tasker

Can I nest Tasker Profiles.. EG
Home From 01:00 to 23:59
Work From 8:00-:1730?
Will Work superceed the HOme Profile?

They would be running at the same time.

If you rely on settings reverting back to their original position on their own, sometimes there is a conflict. They MAY change, they may not. All settings will auto-revert after Home completes.

To fix that, anything Work changes, in Works Exit Task change it back if need be.

I've just started playing with tasker and Man is it awesome....

Home:
Based on Loc Services
Audio Volumes (Notification, ringer, etc) all set to on.
Wifi ON.
Add 1 to %Athome

Work: (Location Service Based)
All Quiet & Vibe On..
Wifi Off
Subtract 1 from %athome

Full battery:
Notification Volume @7 if athome ~1
Play tone

All Off:
Phone face down
Wifi off,
Pause Media (button emulation)
Vibe Off

edit:
I'll be working on setting up something to Text my wife at a spesific time asking Text 1334 if everything is OK. If I don't get a message within 30 min, it will alert me to see if she is OK.

I'll also be working on one for a lost/stolen phone where it will vibe / beep if I text "lost" and if "stolen" have it turn on GPS wait 5 then text me the location, then turn off

Question:
How doe priorities work.. If I have everything set a 3.. but then have an "overriding" profile set to 4 will Tasker ignore 3.. IE.. I have an All off if my phone is flipped over.. but lets say I want to set a higher priority task that turns speaker phone on when I flip my phone on it's face.. will tasker ignore the All off flip?

When you have a profile active (your example: All Off) then you get a call come in (Speaker Call) and you put the phone down for speakerphone, this profile will run at the same time as the other. So your All Off profile turns everything off, a call comes in and the Speakerphone profile turns on. Everything else remains as it was - all off.

Personally I don't touch the priorities because there really is no need to. The only time I have changed it was for an alarm clock profile that has the music fade from lower volume to higher while also offering the snooze and cancel options and having random snooze times all at the same time.

Instead of trying to mess with the priorities, try adding another context to the All Off profile like > Phone Facedown and Not Phone Offhook. This will only activate the All Off profile when there is no call in progress. I've found it more reliable to use additional contexts instead of dealing with priorities because even the developer says they can be really picky.

However if you need to try it for yourself (don't we all ;)), I have found that you should set the priorities to more than just 1 higher, instead try 2 or 3 higher.

I'm using a couple auto wifi profiles stolen from the tasker wiki, that toggle the wireless on my phone, then turn it on if a known wireless network is detected.

However, I have the problem that if i'm on the fringe of the network range, I can't access the internet at all - because wireless is on, I can't access my mobile 3G network, but the wireless is so weak that I can't use it, either.

I thought of making the 'switch on wireless task' activate only if the wireless strength is more than a certain amount, but I can't find a.wireless strength variable anywhere... Is there another way of doing this?

Thanks,
God bless
