What to do?!?!

I really want the Bionic and seeing as though it's coming out next month and that I'm on a 2-year contract, what do I do? I've considered selling it for $575 (this thing is in IMMACULATE condition) and getting the money to go to the Bionic. But since I'm on my moms line (I'm 15) she thinks that it will screw everything up if I break my contract and she says I can't get another phone until July of next year  Is there anyway I can get the Bionic? Any help is greatly appreciated :) Thanks

First of all, really the bionic is coming out next month?? Hopefully they don't screw it up like they did with the Thunderbolt.

Well you may have two options, if anyone else within your family plan (thats if your mom has more than one line on the account) is already eligible for an upgrade then you can use that (it doesn't have to pertain to any account number, you can use anyone's upgrade) then you can get the upgrade then use pass on your phone to someone else in your family.

The second option is selling your phone, however, please note you will not make all the money you want, Droid X's have been on "sale" for purchase without contract online (craigslist, ebay) for around $300+, so thats probably the most you will make out of it. If you do wish to pony up a little more money, then that means you may have to pay around $200~$300, thats if the Bionic goes on retail as the Thunderbolt for about $579.

Good luck, I was planning on doing the same for the Thunderbolt but I think i'm going to wait it out a little longer, if the bionic is coming out next month, then I may just wait till then.

No way in heck you'll get $575 for the X.

If you pay full retail for the Bionic, there are no contract issues. You aren't breaking your contract - you just sell the X, buy the Bionic, and get VZW to switch out your phones on your account. They don't care if you keep the phone they subsidized, they just won't subsidize another one until your contract is up.

I would urge restraint. you will see many excellent phones come out during the remaining time of your contract.
if it is something you really want, a four-letter word comes to mind: work.
sorry, dude.

Mow yards, work at Mickey D's, have a yard sell to get rid of clutter, and save up and wait a few more months.

The Bionic will be on eBay and Craigslist withing a few days of release. The Thunderbolt is there now, and prices only go down over time.

I strongly suggest buying a used smartphone on Craigslist and have the seller meet you at a Verizon Corporate store so you can insure the phone has a good ESN and put it on your account before the seller leaves. I bought and sold my HTC Eris that way last year.

Sell your Droid X after your purchase. You won't get as much for it as you would today, but it will help to refill your coffers.

Waiting sucks, but it can be rewarding (value for price, etc). Besides, your only other option is waiting till July 2012. July 2011 is a lot closer if you buy a used Bionic then.

I wanted to wait for the Bionic but I really wanted a bigger screen now, so I bought the X.
By the time my contract is up next year, the Bionic will probably be a second class device.

There is always something better right around the corner, there is no way to keep up unless you have the means to purchase retail each and every time.

Outstanding advice. That's exactly how I got my X. Contact through Craigslist, meet @ Verizon store, inspect phone, battery, ESN check, everything. Worked out very well. I got the X off contract AND got the Body Glove case as a throw in. Phone was mint, no problems. Guy sold it in advance of purchasing Verizon's iPhone. His loss, my gain (I paid $225).

Now to the other part of the story. My annual upgrade was due on February 10. My new every two is up October 10. I want the Bionic, so I'm waiting very patiently for the Bionic to come out, for reviews, for an eval of the battery life and how LTE/4G will affect it. If all goes well, I'll be sporting the Bionic later this year. In the meantime, the X does everything I could ever want, as fast as I could ever want.

Think hard about this--is the speed of LTE WHERE YOU ARE (this is important--consider how many places you go have free wi-fi, is LTE rolled out in your area, etc) worth splashing almost $600 on an off-contract phone? Or can you wait a bit and get it far cheaper?

None of this stuff retains its value, and the instant you buy one thing, something better comes along.

I almost wish I could have waited an addition 6 months because some of the newer phones coming out blow the previous models out of the water. So depressed, so envious....

instead of getting a bionic, why not root your X, and throw on the new Gingerbread Leak?
It actually makes the X feel like a brand new phone. You'll still have a 4.3 inch screen, moto quality and you don't mess with your contract at all!

Absolutely right. Never get $575 - not even $300.
