What Verizon phone should I get?

I just found out that my company is going to buy a new phone for me. I currently have a rooted droid and love it. I am leaning towards the HTC Incredible. Any thoughts?

I'd go with the Droid X just because it has HDMI out and that is a the only feature that I am lacking on my D1 (besides the obvious hardware upgrades). I also have to say that personally I wouldn't go Droid 2 just because I have found that I very rarely use the built in keyboard but that is also because my fat fingers just don't work very well on it. Droid 2 is suppose to have a better physical keyboard but I haven't stopped by a Verizon store to see.

Droid X, no better smartphone out there today. :)

Motorola seems to be trying to stop ROMS where as HTC seems to welcome it. I also like the way they are about to to start using sense with the web. My boss has the Incredible and a co-worker has the Droid X. The hardware is sweet on both. I guess it will come down to ROM selection. The Fascinate is also available but I am not to high on it.

This is the central theme. If there was an HTC phone on Verizon comparable to the Droid X (a la Evo), I'd be all over it. But there isn't.

The Droid X is, unfortunately, the best choice on Verizon, which makes me very sad because I hate to support a company that is trying to destroy custom ROMs (I already did with the Droid, but hey... mine's got CyanogenMod running on it ;) ). At least you don't even need a ROM to make the Droid X run smoothly though.

My dad has the Droid X. You won't regret getting it, except for the pang in your heart knowing that you're supporting a really douchey company by buying it.

On the other hand, if you don't want the 4.3" screen (and I don't get why anyone wouldn't want that amazing screen size), Incredible all the way! Don't even bother with the Fascinate, it's a high-end Galaxy S turned feature-phone by all of Verizon's meddling. Really, Bing?

if you dont mind rooting, and custom roms go Fascinate, that phone has the most potential. if you want to keep it stock go Droid X, unless of course you like touch wiz and bing.

I suppose if it gets a ROM from AOSP and not just a hacked-up Fascinate ROM, it has major potential. Especially considering the Galaxy S line has the most powerful underlying hardware out there.

What exactly is Motorola doing to stop custom ROMs from being developed / installed? Locking down the bootloader? Or something more insidious?

Whatever they're doing, it seems they're not doing a very good job as all of their phones have been rooted shortly after they were released. Where there's a will, there's a way.

EDIT: I didn't realize that a rooted Droid X still cannot load custom ROMs due to the locked bootloader. What a bitch! I'm sure someone will figure it out eventually, for now I'm glad I've got the Droid 1.

That is why I am leaning towards the Incredible. The Droid X screen is sick but I am hooked on custom ROMS and I do not want to have to wait for someone to figure it out.

I think Blackdroid might be close as he just started a new bug tracking system for UD9 (although it has yet to hit) and it has trackers for droid, inc, droid 2, and droid x all running UD9 so it is quite possible we may see the first custom rom for the DX soon. Which will possibly bring me one step closer to getting one... (its that damn HDMI out, I work in the video broadcasting industry and the thought of being able to pull my phone out and show clients videos from my phone and not dragging one more device out is just tempting as hell even though I love my D1).

I ended up going with the Incredible. I was torn between the Droid X and the Incredible but couldn't bring myself to go with the Droix X even though the screen and HDMI out were very attractive.

if they crack the bootloader on the droid x i might cave in for it, still running my d1 fine though and cant imagine giving up my d1 for anything i cant run custom roms and kernels on.

good call with the inc, only downside I see is it sounds like Birdman and others might be incredibly close to actually cracking the bootloader on the x.

if you want a phone you can root and switch roms and generally mess with then get the Dinc. If you want a phone that you are going to leave stock or mostly stock then get the DX.

I wouldnt buy the DX expecting to see the bootloader unlocked soon. The devs seem to have mostly given up on the supposed process for unlocking the BL.

Im looking to get either a Dinc or a Fascinate so I have something I can mess with and put different roms on but in general the DX will probably still be my daily driver.
