What was your favorite horror film as a kid?

The evening news.

I was a kid during the bloodiest part of the Vietnam War, and it was covered in "living color" on all three TV networks. And yes, it was shot on film back then.

Ok, I will date myself :)

The Fly 1958
House On Haunted Hill 1959
House of Usher 1960
Psycho 1960
Pit and the Pendulum 1961
Premature Burial 1962
The Day of the Triffids 1962
Whatever Happened To Baby Jane 1962

Those are the movies that bothered me the most as a kid. I was between six and ten years old at the time. I think that's likely the most impressionable age and I was certainly taken in and completely bothered/entertained by them. There have been some great movies in the horror genre since I was little. None that effected me quite like the ones when I was a kid.

When I was a kid (maybe 8?) I popped in Arachnophobia when my parents weren't around. Big mistake. That movie scared the bejesus out of me. Spiders still scare the crap out of me til this day.

I got one: "The Candy Man" true story of Dean Corll and two cronies that lured and killed over 25 local boys during the 1970s... some missing still not solved to this day.

I forgot about this one! It's always been one of my favorites.

My boyfriend doesn't care for scary movies (uninterested), but he watches them with me simply to poke fun and laugh at me when I jump at the scary parts hehe.

I love Horror movies and at one point during the 80s when a friend worked in a video rental store, we would get one out every night and watch it. We went through hundreds of movies during one summer holidays.

I became jaded pretty quick but I do remember the earliest thing that scared me as a young child was a late 1970s episode of Tom Baker's Doctor Who called Horror of Fang Rock.

I used to collect banned movies and had uncut 'banned' copies of Evil Dead, Cannibal Holocaust, Driller Killer, I Spit on Your Grave, House on the Edge of the Park, Cannibal Ferox, Nightmares in a Damaged Brain and quite a few others too. This was way before the internet and they were all on video cassette. I had to hide them from my father, who was a cop. Ah, those were the days. :D

dont know if anyone said it yet but there was a trilogy called Phantasm and while it was pretty scary when i was a kid its kampy and funny now go check it out

I can't even count how many times me and my friends watched Phantasm when I was a teenager lol. I'm sure all the doobage made it better.:p

What movie got you going as a kid?

Mine was The Last Man on Earth (1964) - IMDb . Vincent Price was a classic!! This movie is why I enjoy Zombie movies/shows. The classic horror films were simplistic and enjoyable IMO. Even the comedy horror films.

P.S. I love Halloween and all the gory movies!!
I saw this movie when I was about 9 or 10. It scared the crap out of me. I couldn't sleep for a couple of nights. Watching it now, it's actually pretty mild...compared to similar movies now.
