What's a worthy replacement?

Got my One X (white) upgrade today. I love it, the screen is one of the best ive seen on a phone. basically im delighted with it and would recommend. Deliberatey loaded up loads of apps to see if i could generate a slow down. Didnt happen.

I was just checking Antutu on my phone, good benchmarking app already got the galaxy s3 benchmark in there.(not bad as its not out yet):D

Is nobody considering the SGS3? Or are we all just sat tight for the next 2 days? I'm looking forward to it and still think it's up there to being my next phone.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Sammy have in store on Thursday.
After dismissing the 1X, I'm now torn between the GS3, and the ascend. Then I'll make my decision.
If the Ascend wont be released for months, and the GS3 very soon, and the specs are decent, I may opt for the S3.

Well, the SIII certainly ticked most of my boxes! I was extremely surprised to see both removable battery and external SD. Didn't really expect either, to be honest.

I can't wait to see the full reviews!

The Ascend D Quad XL needs to get out on the market really soon, or risk being left in the dust. It has a lot going for it, but to have the development ecosystem to be really interesting, it needs to get itself out there pretty damn immediately!

I agree, it's definitely a consideration now. However, I'm not keen on the huge screen size and the pentile pixel array. Ascend D Quad looks more ideal now with IPS LCD which will be very sharp.

I think I'm sold! It looks like a very good piece of tech and will probably do as well as its predecessors. I'm looking forward to a hands on review from its fan base.

Unless the Ascend is launched on or around the 29th, they've lost a future customer.
The GS3 is everything I want from a phone.
I don't know why the ascend is taking so long. The official advert for it has been out for weeks and the specs where announced at the MWC months ago. A fantastic phone risks getting left behind unless Huawei get their asses in gear.

SG3 also has Wolfson DAC inside (apparently confirmed by supercurio) - could make it a winner for me. Glad I have plenty of time to wait and see what the Ascend brings before deciding.

I just hope Vodafone can do a good deal on the GS3. I'm getting sick of the wife moaning that I wont be able to afford a next gen phone.

It's looking like the Sammy for me. Giffgaff payback comes in June so it's perfect timing :D Wonder what the cost will be without contract?

Edit:

So what are people thinking now as a replacement, now that Samsung have shown their hand?

Well, the storage capabilities are undoubtedly astounding. You can start with 64GB internal memory and then expand with a 64GB SDXC card taking you upto 128GB. Pretty much blows everything else away.

The battery is a very good size, especially for the slim form factor of the phone. Once you disable that camera-watching-your-eyes feature, it should last for ages. Oh, and its removable.

This phone is definitely going to have a huge and active developer community, which is something we've all become accustomed to with the Desire and would want to maintain.

The very quick camera is comparable to the One X, with burst and instant shutter.

All very good, undoubtedly. But it's freaking huge for my little hands used to the desire. The form factor of the Ascend D Quad is far more appealing to me.

And then there is the pentile display on the SIII. I don't know why they did that. The screen spoiled the phone for me. I may be exaggerating, but I can't help thinking that if people complain now that they can see the poor pentile quality on the Galaxy Nexus, then this is going to be even worse because they are maintaining the 720p resolution but making it bigger - meaning bigger pixels, or larger spaces between pixels. Don't people realize that bigger is better only if there are more pixels?

Now I don't know anymore. I guess I would have to see the two phones next to each other - the SIII and the Ascend D Quad - in order to decide.

I've ordered a new battery for my Desire, as I don't expect to retire it just yet, but have started taking interest in what's coming (which is a bad sign).

The S3 looks like a nice alternative to the One X - about the same width, I suspect the X has the better screen but removable battery and sd slot trump that. The Ascend D Quad should have a sharper screen and slightly more friendly size, and I'm still guessing it'll be cheaper. But the proof is always in the execution rather than the specs, so an waiting to see the real things first...
